COINCIDENTALLY, the five to follow arrow this week stops at Mallusk, Co Antrim. Kevin Corey owns the yard high above Belfast and has built a second barn on-site for the Cowden stable. Haulage contactor Kevin discussed five horses with The Irish Field.
Kevin Corey
Double Deuce (IRE)
5yo g Armbro Deuce - Art n Soul
As I said recently, he had a wind operation and it seems to have clicked. It was because of the ability that he showed that I spent the money on him. I think he can go faster than the 2.03 he has shown. He’ll be aimed at the premier meeting at our home track, Annaghmore.
Art At The Beach (IRE)
6yo m Hasty Hall - Art n Soul
These three are all from the same mare, a mare I bought from Sue Young in Herefordshire. She was a bit weak behind last year but she managed to win over a mile and a quarter in Lyre. We’ve given her a bit of time. She is owned by my son Adam.
Arts Closure (IRE)
4yo g Foreclosure - Art n Soul
He won a couple at three but just wasn’t ready to mix with Oakwood Cowboy and the rest. He can be a bit quirky in the stable but is fine at the track. We’ll have a bit of fun with him.
Fairdays Western (IRE)
9yo g The Preacher Pan - Lyons Western
We’ll start him off later as he raced late last season. He had some season in 2020. He went faster than two minutes seven times and beat 1.57 four times. He won the All-Ireland and the M50 final so he owes us nothing.
Flash Mac De Coeut (FR)
6yo g Prince Lorme - Isadora Bonheur
My father’s new French Trotter. We towed him a bit to get him started but now my father is jogging him. My dad had great fun with Amitie Briangault and he is a fan of LeTROT concept.
Jonny Cowden
JONNY Cowden has a day job with the Stuart Crawford National Hunt yard near Larne. He works with his pacers and trotters in the afternoons and was at pains to acknowledge the help he receives from his father Noel, who helps when not busy with his finance business.
“We owe so much to the Coreys who have been so welcoming. Without Kevin I wouldn’t have the success I have enjoyed.”
Jonny gave The Irish Field three trotters and two pacers to follow.
Diamond Dash (FR)
8yo g Bieselo - Jahira Kin
We own him with Jonathan Nixon. He is a good-looking chesnut. He was making little breaks last year, so we have changed his shoeing. He is off a nice mark and will be my drive in apprentice races.
Bombay Sapphire (IRE)
5yo g Kikicolt - Gee n Tee
He is a full-brother to Sarahs Gift and Beat The Clock so we have to try him. He had niggly issues as a youngster so we backed off a bit. He is jogging with the aged horses and coming on well.
Cilando Des Temps (FR)
9yo g Milando - Orka De Deere
He is probably my best horse. He is stuck in the high grades now. We’ll pick our races and aim for the free-for-alls at the big meetings. He’ll not be ready for another five or six weeks.
Celui La Laye (FR)
9yo g Nil Du Rib – Pelaye De Montfort
We bought him from Jonathan Nixon last year. He had shown some ability. I got tipped out of the cart the first day I raced him, and I thought it was my own fault. He then won going right-handed which looks like his strong suit.
Beat The Clock (IRE)
7yo g Kikicolt - Gee And Tee
He was with John Richardson at Meadowbranch last year and all their horses were under a cloud. I’d better mention my dad who jogs this horse. Beat The Clock can be a bit ignorant to work with, but my father is working on getting him to relax.
