Sharp Focus
(G. Elliott)
Killarney, October 4th
On his second start for Gordon Elliott he ran a fine second to Simply True in an 11-furlong handicap.
He was forced to drop in from a poor draw and had plenty to do turning for home but he finished strongly to lose out by just a head and he showed enough here to suggest he can get his turn before the end of the season.
Espion Du Chenet
(L.G. Lyons)
Killarney, October 5th
This six-year-old eventually finished a remote fourth behind Felix Desjy in a beginners’ chase on Monday but deserved to finish much closer than he did.
He was the only member of the field to try and make a race of it with the winner and paid the price for that over the final half mile. However, he did shape with some encouragement and could be of interest at a lower level of competition in due course.
Elizabeth J
(J.E. Kiely)
Galway, October 7th
This mare was having her first outing since February when chasing home Ragnar Lodbrok in a maiden hurdle over just short of two and a half miles.
She finished out her race nicely to secure the runner-up spot and with this run behind her she should have little difficulty picking up a mares’ maiden hurdle in the coming weeks.
Zara Mac
(M.D. O’Callaghan)
Navan, October 7th
A filly from the hugely successful first crop of Mehmas, she shaped up quite nicely on her debut to be beaten six lengths into fourth by Alarm Call in a median auction maiden over an extended five furlongs.
She should sharpen up a good deal for this run and a sprint maiden might well come her way before the end of the season.
Arcadian Sunrise
(J. Queally)
Thurles, October 8th
He had fitness on his side when winning a two-mile maiden on Thursday but still produced a smart effort to win with plenty in hand.
He was a useful hurdler last season but might just be an improved horse this term and a decent prize could come his way.
