12.40 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF PADDY MULLINS MARES

HANDICAP HURDLE (GRADE B) 2M 2F

Contingency is an unexposed type who has shaped up nicely on her two outings over hurdles and should have more to offer. Her two wins have been over 2m 5f at Tramore and Galway but she should cope with this shorter trip. This is an altogether different challenge to what she has previously faced but there was plenty to like about both of those wins and she could easily improve on her return from a 139-day break.

Just Janice is an experienced type who was progressing nicely in the autumn and she is entitled to better last week’s run behind Laurina at Fairyhouse which was her first for almost three months. The better ground that she will encounter should help her cause.

Barra hasn’t gone on from her first second to Let’s Dance at Cheltenham last year but a return to that form could see her get closely involved.

Selection: CONTINGENCY

Next best: Just Janice

2.25 WILLIAM FRY HANDICAP HURDLE (0-150) (GRADE B) 3M

It is hard to look past the chances of Total Recall given his exploits over fences earlier this season. He was an ultra-impressive winner of the Munster National in October and did better again at Newbury in early December when edging out Whisper in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase. He now switches back to hurdles to race off a mark 31lbs lower than the one he holds over fences and his progress over the larger obstacles this term would show that he could easily improve on what he has previously shown in this sphere.

Flawless Escape is an interesting rival. He progressed from a good hurdling debut to win what looked a well contested 2m 4f maiden here in December. He gives the impression that a longer trip will suit and an initial rating of 128 doesn’t look too harsh. A Great View is another to consider closely as he lost out by just a head to Mine Now in a Pertemps Qualifer over this course and distance at Christmas.

Selection: TOTAL RECALL

Next best: Flawless Escape

4.10 CHANELLE PHARMA HANDICAP CHASE (GRADE A) 2M 5F

De Benno might strike a blow for the older generation. The lightly weighted 13-year-old comes here in the form of his life as evidenced by his clear-cut victory in a Grade B handicap chase at Limerick over Christmas. Before that he ran a fine second to Nearly Nama’d in a good 2m handicap chase at Fairyhouse and the form of his head second to Doctor Phoenix at Cork in November reads very well in light of the latter’s subsequent Dan Moore Chase triumph.

The unexposed Hell’s Kitchen is a notable challenger from across the Irish Sea. He turned in a nice effort at Kempton over Christmas when beating Mister Whitaker who franked the form last weekend by winning a good handicap at Cheltenham.

Vieux Morvan is very interesting as he turned in a cracking effort from the front in the Paddy Power Chase (finished fifth) on his Irish debut and this shorter trip will suit him well. Sutton Manor might be able to step forward on what he has shown over fences so far.

Selection: DE BENNO

Next best: Hell’s Kitchen

4.40 COOLMORE N.H. SIRES IRISH EBF MARES INH FLAT RACE (GRADE 2) 2M

A chance is taken on Motown Girl. She had to give best to one of today’s rivals, Getaway Katie Mai, on her debut at Ballinrobe in August but showed that she had progressed well from that effort when bolting up in a Limerick bumper two months ago. On that occasion she was 9l too good for Minnies Secret, who has since won twice, and the form she showed there would entitle her to play a leading role here.

Colreevy is the one to beat as she looked a very talented sort when making a winning racecourse debut in a mares’ bumper at Fairyhouse in mid-December.

Cordovan Brown and the aforementioned Getaway Katie Mai are others to consider having already run to a good standard.

Selection: MOTOWN GIRL

Next best: Colreevy
