NEXT Saturday, all roads will lead to Toomebridge where the Mid Antrims will kick off the 2019/2020 point-to-point season.

While we noted in last Saturday’s column that plenty of hunters’ certificates had been issued by that hosting pack, we were also aware that none had been registered for horses qualified with the East Antrims.

However, the Crawford brothers and Warren Ewing put that to right this week with Ross Crawford, who is now a handler in his own right, registering certs for four horses. This quartet comprises Bob McKnight’s seven-year-old Winged Love gelding Airdrigh and three four-year-olds belonging to David Bailey.

Stuart Crawford has registered certs for two five-year-olds and three four-year-olds while Warren Ewing’s seven four-year-olds include two geldings by Jeremy and a filly by the same sire.

Among other recent registrations that caught the eye was that for the Route-qualified Back To Bataan who is still trained by Mervyn Torrens but now for his show jumping daughter Jennifer not for his wife Anne in whose colours the seven-year-old Millenary gelding ran on the track.

We also noted that owner Wilson Dennison had Mid Antrim certs registered for four other horses over the past week while his daughter, Caroline McCaldin has charge of six horses whose certs were registered for the past seven days, five of them due to run in the colours of her husband, Alan.

Three of the Dennison horses are being trained in Cullybackey by Jamie Sloan who has charge of five others belonging to Ronnie Bartlett. Gerald Quinn has registered Route certs for three mares, Colin McBratney has registered certs for four horses including Frances Savage’s pride and joy, Quiet Account, while the four horses for whom David Christie has registered Fermanagh certs all belong to Ray Nicholas.
