Exchange betting operator Matchbook back in business in UK

MATCHBOOK, operated by Cork-based technology company Xanadu Consultancy, announced this week that they can operate in the UK once again.

The news comes after a challenging few months for the exchange betting operator, who in February were forced to halt their business in the UK when the industry regulator, the Gambling Commission issued them with a package of sanctions for social responsibility and money laundering failings. In April, Triplebet, the owner of Matchbook, were ordered to pay £740,000 in fines to the regulator.

Remedial measures have been accepted by the GC and Matchbook can now welcome back its UK-based customers. In a statement, a spokesperson for Matchbook said: “This announcement marks the culmination of many months of hard work and investment across our entire business. We are extremely proud of the dedication and commitment of our staff during a very challenging economic period that has enabled Matchbook to once again offer a much improved exchange platform to UK residents as we continue to grow our market share.”

Matchbook continued to operate in Ireland as normal over the last few months. They were announced as sponsors of Cork’s new seven-furlong straight course, labelled the Matchbook Straight Seven, last year however they no longer sponsor any races at the Mallow track.

However Matchbook will continue to sponsor the Grade 1 novice chase that takes place at Limerick on St Stephen’s Day. Replying to The Irish Field yesterday, a spokesperson said: “We are very much looking forward to supporting Limerick this December and will continue to support horse racing across the UK & Ireland as the opportunities arise in the future.”
