ANOTHER beautiful show for horse fans as the Doorway Gallery in Dublin opens an exhibition by Tony O’Connor, The Equus Connection on Thursday, April 7th at 6-7.30pm at 24, South Frederick Street, Dublin 2 and running to May 5th.

Tracy Piggott will leave the confines of RTÉ to do the honours on opening night.

Tony has taken inspiration from the employment of the word horse in English – whether you’re looking at a gift horse, a dark horse, a dead horse, from your high horse, from a one horse town, holding your horses, being dragged by wild horses, or have the kind of horse that can be led to water but won’t drink it.

Born in Kerry in 1977, Tony O’Connor studied Fine Art at Crawford College of Art & Design where he also gained his Higher Diploma in Art Education and currently paints in his Cork-based studio.

He has a disciplined approach to his study of horse anatomy, and puts a great emphasis on technical execution.

The artist is aiming for a quiet strength in these works where the eye of the horse is the window to its soul.

A charity ride will be held on Sunday, March 20th in Quin, Co Clare, with the support of the Co Clare Hunt, in aid of Clare Suicide Bereavement Support, a charity which has helped many hunt members whom have been bereft by suicide. This is the fifth year of the charity ride and it has grown in strength each year.

It’s open to all levels of horsemanship and ponies are welcome too – horse entry €25, ponies €10, start time 12.30pm and refreshments afterwards at Monks Well, Quinn. Contact Edel McMahon on 086 8148054 or check out www.claresuicidebereavementsupport.com
