SALLY Ann Grassick has been in touch with news of an international social media initiative aimed at promoting racing to a wider audience through people working behind the scenes in the racing and breeding industry.

Thoroughbred Tales will centre mainly around Twitter, but also features Facebook and Instagram accounts, which will be guest hosted by different industry professionals for certain periods of time that can range from a few days to a week.

The objective is to showcase the dedication of staff in all areas of the industry and the high level of care given to thoroughbreds at every stage of their lives.

The Thoroughbred Tales team is a group of passionate professionals from various parts of the industry. Joining Sally Ann are trainer Sarah Lynam, journalists Aisling Crowe, Lizzy Sainty and Thom Malone, and bloodstock agent Cathy Grassick, among many others.

Sally Ann commented: “The future of our industry is something we all felt very passionate about. There has been a lot in the media recently about showing racing off in a better light to the public.

“We were particularly inspired by the American social media initiative #IAmHorseRacing and the recent article by American racing broadcaster and former jockey Donna Brothers, which featured a call to arms for people in racing to flood social media with positive posts about racing rather than the negativity we see around major meetings like the Grand National.

“After speaking with many industry professionals, we felt that now was the time to take things into our own hands through the medium of social media.”

Sally Ann is delighted with the early response, the Twitter account attracting over 850 followers by Thursday afternoon and there have been multiple offers from people in all areas of racing and breeding to guest host the account.

“This project will only work with the support of the industry, so we need more followers in order to spread our message and we welcome all offers to guest host the accounts no matter what area of racing and breeding people are working in. Now is your chance to influence the future of racing!”

Thoroughbred Tales hopes to announce its first guest host in the coming weeks. Why don’t you give them a follow and perhaps tell your own tale to the world.
