THE second day of the Moira Meeting was a Dylan O’Connor benefit as he helped himself to four winners on the day.

Dylan got the day off to the best possible start as he took the 12.2hh race on Temple Hill Tamara for fellow Cork owner J.J. O’Keeffe. They hit the front two furlongs out before drawing clear to win from the Kian McNally-ridden local hope, Where It Began.

Dylan then went on to land the biggest win of his fledgling career as he took the featured Moira Derby on 2017 Dingle Derby heroine Ida’s Dream for his mother Mags.

The 14.2hh race was another prize that headed to Cork as Dylan made every post a winning post on the Maurice Ahern-trained Baby Brown before he completed his haul in the mile race as Cali Cartel stepped up from his runner-up finish in Friday’s 15hh race to win for the O’Sullivan family from Killorglin in Kerry.

Dylan sat in midfield in this race before coming through to lead before the furlong marker.

Form boost

Earlier in the day, Cali Cartel’s conqueror from Friday, Ya Skitter, gave the form a boost as he took added Saturday’s 15hh race, defying a 10lb winners’ penalty.

Jake Coen took his time early in this race before coming through to lead inside the final quarter mile for a comprehensive win.

Kian grounded

Kian “Tubs” McNally who had recorded a double on Friday’s card, saw both sides of the racing game as he repeated Friday’s 14hh win on Unhinged before hitting the deck in the 14.2hh race as Five Stone Of Lead came down on the final bend when looking to travelling well. Luckily for Kian, he escaped relatively unscathed.

Calum Hogan was another rider to hit the deck on the afternoon as the Rathkeale, Co. Limerick rider was not quite as lucky as he suffered a dislocated shoulder that will see him out of action for a few weeks.

Earlier winner

Calum did have the comfort of an earlier winner to ease his discomfort as he claimed the spoils in the 12-furlong race for Letterkenny owner Gary Dempsey.

Calum sat well of the pace until making up the ground to lay down his challenge on the turn in before coming out a length to the good over the Conor Stone Walsh-ridden Let It Go.

The Local Pony Race for novice riders’ saw victory go to Patsy who was partnered by Harry McMillan.
