THE Midlands Region raced on Carrowniskey Strand, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo last Sunday where riding honours were shared between Dylan Browne-McMonagle and Sam Ewing who shared six of the seven races evenly.

Sam started the day off with victory in the 13.2hh Race where Little Mainne stretched clear in the last furlong to win from Mickey Finn. Sam then teamed up with Monasterevin owner/trainer Buddy Harrison to take the 15hh Race and the Mile and Six Furlong Race. Mr. Bud sat in third position until they turned into the final straight and Sam then delivered him to win snugly. Then, when riding Try Your Best, Sam jumped out in front, gave his mount a breather along the final bend before setting sail for home for a one-length win from the Joey Dunne-ridden Buddakan. Joey was the only rider other than Sam or Dylan to make a trip to the winners’ enclosure and the 15-year-old Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath rider took the concluding race over a mile on Keeper Hill. Joey who rides out for Noel Meade, took the initiative from the start as he made all to win from the Conor Rabbitte-ridden Miss Bossy Boots.

Dylan Browne-McMonagle opened his account in the 14hh Race as Unhinged saw off the challenge of Bubbalicious by a length. He then took the next as Five Stone Of Lead, who like Unhinged, runs for the Letterkenny-based Browne Syndicate, took the 14.2hh Race. Dylan sat in second position until the final two furlongs where she quickened clear.

Dylan’s third winner completed a great day for the Monasterevin owners as Aidan Melia’s Half Price took the 10 Furlong Race from Mr. Mac, who was Daniel Gilligan’s third runner-up finish of the day. Dylan got a flyer from the start on Half Price and was never headed as they ran out eight-length winners.

THE Midlands Region move to Co. Roscommon for their Ballinagare Meeting tomorrow, Sunday with the first due off at 1pm.

THE Southern Region race tomorrow, Sunday in Ballingarry, Co. Limerick where the first is also now due off at 1pm due to the large entries.
