Jersey Stakes (Group 3)
IT was a remarkable week for Juddmonte sire Bated Breath, who was represented by only five runners at Royal Ascot, but managed to produce three winners courtesy of Biometric in the Britannia, Daahyeh in the Albany, and Space Traveller in the Jersey Stakes.
The win of Richard Fahey’s colt also crowned a remarkable week for Danny Tudhope, for whom this was a fourth winner of the week at Ascot, despite the fact that he wasn’t in action every day and had only 10 rides in total.
Space Traveller prevailed in a tight finish from another Godolphin colt coming on from victory at Epsom, in this case the Surrey Stakes winner Space Blues, who challenged away from his rival, depriving us of what might have been an intriguing battle. The John Gosden-trained Angel’s Hideaway was third.
Both winning jockey and trainer gave much of the credit for the win to owner Steve Parkin, as Richard Fahey explained:
“I had a long chat with [Steve] this morning and he wanted to ride him cold. He said drop him right out and ride him for luck and it’s paid off. He came on the outside and flew home. When you win a race like this the Lennox Stakes looks the obvious race, but I’ve got to sit down with Steve and the team at Clipper [Logistics].”
