LAST week’s “Time Will Tell” column caught some of the action at York’s Dante Meeting, but not all of it in what was a busy period.
Timing highlight of the opening day at York came from Magical Memory, who ran significantly faster than had the useful handicapper See The Sun, despite carrying 17lb more than that horse, in winning the Duke of York Stakes, earning himself a 120 timefigure in the process. Only Galileo Gold in the 2000 Guineas has achieved a higher figure in Britain and Ireland this year.
The highlight of York’s Friday card, the Betway Yorkshire Cup, told us little new about the protagonists from a time point of view, a sedate early pace meaning that Clever Cookie (capable of a 122 figure at his best) registered a 71 in victory.
