BREEDERS’ CUP JUVENILE
FILLIES TURF (GRADE 1)
RUSHING Fall flew the American flag in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The Kentucky-bred daughter of More Than Ready stormed from ninth, holding off Best Performance by three-quarters of a length. Irish-bred September overcame a bumbling start to wind up third.
Facing the usual onslaught of European shippers (including six Irish-breds), Rushing Fall kept her unbeaten record intact.
Owned by Five Racing Thoroughbreds and trained by Chad Brown, Rushing Fall is now three-for-three and on the cusp of greatness.
Purchased for $320,000 at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga last summer, Rushing Fall broke her maiden easily in September, swept to an easier score in the Jessamine at Keeneland in October and added the Breeders’ Cup three weeks later.
Javier Castellano, on his way to the Bill Shoemaker Award as the best jockey at this year’s Breeders’ Cup, deftly guided the winner from post 11, a tactic recognized and appreciated by Brown.
“Javier rode a great race. The key was going out of that post and getting a spot in the first half of the field which he accomplished,” Brown said. “From there, with a nice pace in front of us, he was comfortable where he was and he moved when he felt the time was right. She has a devastating move when you turn her loose.”
