DARLEY GOODWOOD

(GROUP 1)

TRAINER Anthony Freedman has continued his recent run of good form to land South Australia’s richest race, the Darley Goodwood, worth A$1 million, with Santa Ana Lane.

A winner earlier in the season of the Rupert Clark Stakes at Caulfield, this was the Loup De Vega gelding’s second Group 1 win in his last five starts. A product of the ill-fated Patinack Farm, Santa Ana Lane, out of the Fastnet Rock mare Fast Fleet, was a A$80,000 yearling at the Inglis Melbourne Premier by Brett Howard’s Randwick Bloodstock.

Home by just over a length, he defeated the Fastnet Rock mare Missrock, with third-placed I’ll Have A Bit continuing the Fastnet Rock theme, being by that sire’s son Smart Missile.
