CAULFIELD GUINEAS
(GROUP 1)
CAULFIELD trainer Mick Price sprung a huge surprise in the $2 million Caulfield Guineas, ambushing the favourites with Mighty Boss, who had claimed a start in the race just three days earlier. With resurgent jockey Michael Walker back to his best, the flashy chesnut with the bold blaze, surged through with a rails run to deliver a 100/1 knockout.
The Not A Single Doubt colt, a NZ$180,000 purchase, defeated the Lonhro colt Kementari, with the Fastnet Rock filly Catchy in third.
SCHWEPPES THOUSAND
GUINEAS (GROUP 1)
AARON Purcell, having taken over the stable of the suspended Ciaron Maher, trained his first Group 1 winner, landing the Thousand Guineas with Aloisia, a private purchase out of New Zealand by OTI Racing’s Terry Henderson.
A winner already at Flemington, the Azamour filly will progress towards the Victoria Oaks via the Moonee Valley Vase, the same path the Ciaron Maher stable successfully followed with Jameka in 2015 when she won the Vase and then the Oaks.
