CHARTER KECK CRAMER
Moir Stakes (Group 1)
LAST season’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner Extreme Choice retuned against the older horses last Friday week, taking on the likes of winners Chautauqua and Buffering in the Group 1 Moir Stakes over 1,000 metres at Moonee Valley.
Settled at the tail with only Chautauqua behind him in the nine-horse field, jockey Craig Newitt improved the Not A Single Doubt colt’s position past halfway, before unleashing the three-year-old on the home turn.
Taking full advantage of his 52kg allocation at weight-for-age, Extreme Choice gave his rivals windburn, sweeping past the field to win by over a length.
Second was the Lonhro mare Heatherly, with Manhattan Rain mare Wild Rain third.
Chautauqua and Buffering were fourth and fifth respectively.
Trainer Mick Price says Extreme Choice will now head straight to the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on Victoria Derby day and vindicates the move made by the syndicate, headed by Newgate Farm and the China Horse Club, to buy into the colt on the eve of the Golden Slipper, which, to date, is his only blemish in five career starts.
