USED to regulate breeding cycles in mares, the altrenogest sold under the name Regu-Mate has sparked debate in racing circles following Racing Victoria’s ban on the altrenogest (Regu-Mate) because it contains detectable levels of both trendione and trenbolone (a banned steroid).
Counter to this, Racing New South Wales have made a local State rule, which provides Racing NSW with the discretion to dismiss ‘nonconsequential’ levels of the anabolic steroid trendione or trenbolone associated with its use.
At present there is no clarification for a national rule by Racing Australia.
Voodoo in Winterbottom
VOODOO Lad claimed the Winterbottom Stakes in Perth to land his first Group 1 at his 10th attempt.
Trained by Darren Weir, the I Am Invincible gelding was ridden by local lad Damien Oliver who has been riding in vintage form of late. “I love coming home, this where it all started for me so it’s great to do it at home,” said Oliver.
“I always thought this horse would be suited by this race, a pressure 1,200 (metres), and he showed that today, he finished too strong for them.”
Winning by three-quarters of a length Voodoo Lad defeated the Testa Rossa mare Enticing Star and the Magnus gelding Malaguerra in a 14-horse field.
“He really deserves it that horse,” said Weir. “He’s run so well in a lot of great races and just missed by a small margin so he deserves a big one.”
