RACING New South Wales have announced a new race to the Spring Carnival roster to the value of A$7.5 million. The west Sydney venue Rosehill will be the venue for the valuable contest.
The Golden Eagle will be run over 1,500m and be restircted to four-year-olds only.
The restriction of the race to four-year-olds only is seen as an incentive to keep horses in training and offers an alternative to selling horses to Asia.
The race will form the third leg of the A$5 million bonus for any horse that can win in the Group 1 Golden Slipper as a two-year-old and the Group 1 Golden Rose as a three-year-old.
The first running of the Golden Eagle is set to be run on November 2nd, which will clash with Melbourne’s Victoria Derby day.
An interest aspect to the valuable contest is that 10% of total prize money will got to charities. The chosen charities will be decided by connections prior to the race on November 2nd. Prize money will be generated through a new wagering system being set up by TAB.
