LAST Saturday at Deauville, the three-year-old Attendu put two previous Group 1 winners firmly in their place when winning the seven-furlong Prix du Palais-Royal. The colt was one of five winners at the meeting for Maxime Guyon and they won the Group 3 race with something in hand.

Taking control inside the final furlong, Attendu beat Esoterique by two lengths and Territories was a further three away in third place. To be fair, the winner was racing for the third time this year while the runner-up and third were making their seasonal debuts.

Carlos Laffon-Parias trains Attendu for the Wertheimer brothers. He disclosed: “The distance of the Poulains (ninth to The Gurkha) was too long. The plan now is to run him in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Group 1) in August at Deauville.’’ Last year, Attendu was third to Johannes Vermeer in the Criterium International where the Jockey Club winner Almanzor finished seventh.

Chantilly numbers

AROUND 6,500 racegoers turned out for the Jockey Club meeting, which clashed with the men’s tennis final at Roland Garros. In addition, the weather was dull and transport in France is difficult at the moment due to various strikes and a petrol shortage.

The attendance for the Prix de Diane Longines is expected to be in the region of 30,000 plus.

Glamour at Diane

THE English soccer team for the European Cup is staying at the Aga Khan’s super luxurious Auberge du Jeu de Paume just next to the Chateau de Chantilly. They do not play on June 19th so are sure to be invited by France Galop to the Diane and will probably be shown the training gallops by clerk of the course Mattieu Vincent. The WAGS should add ambience to the glamorous meeting.
