THE only Grade 1 race this weekend in the US is the Delaware Handicap where I’m A Chatterbox, an easy winner of the graded Obeah Stakes in her last start, will be favourite over five other fillies and mares.
Trained by Larry Jones, I’m A Chatterbox captured her first Grade 1 stakes last September in the Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing and then finished eighth in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff in October. I’m A Chatterbox will be ridden by Florent Geroux.
Paid Up Subscriber, winner of the 1 1/8-mile Grade 2 Fleur de Lis Stakes, drew the rail and should be well-suited for the Del Cap distance, according to trainer Al Stall Jr.
Godolphin’s Penwith, a five-year-old Bernardini mare trained by Kiaran McLaughlin finished sixth and last in the La Troienne (Grade 1) at Churchill on May 6th, but earlier in the year won a Grade 2 at Gulfstream Park.
Elsewhere, Cupid, in the ownership of Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith disputes favouritism with Cherry Wine in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby with a field of 12.
The Tapit colt won his first two races of the season, including the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn, before finishing well down the field in the Arkansas Derby.
Cherry Wine has contested the Preakness and the Belmont on his last two starts, finishing seventh at Belmont Park last time.
