A non-runner on the opening day of the flat season, Stonezilian can reward connections patience. The Adrian Murray-trained filly is bred for the job, being a half-sister to a juvenile winner who later picked up blacktype at three-years-old. Given that Murray took that aforementioned first two-year-old race of the year, he should have a good line to what is needed.

Miami Destination, a second runner from the Murray stable, also commands respect. Although likely to do better with time, she is related to a horse who won over the minimum trip in the US.

Magical Vision could be worth chancing on her first start of the campaign. Aidan Howard’s mare is one that tends to run her best races off the back of a break. A winner over course and distance last April, it has to be a concern that she hasn’t raced since but if back to anything like her best the eight-year-old should be competitive.

A real improver throughout last season, the Eddie Lynam-trained Keke rates a serious threat. The five-year-old, who signed off with an impressive success in the Joe McGrath handicap, has the potential to develop into a blacktype performer this term.

With the Aidan O’Brien stable having started the new season amongst the winners, the lightly-raced Smiling can open her account. Seventh in a backend maiden at Naas last October, the daughter of No Nay Never stepped forward when runner-up at Dundalk the following month. If she has progressed further over the winter, this doesn’t look the strongest of maidens. Vanderbilt House should be a contender for Johnny Murtagh. Boasting an official rating of 80, the Blue Point filly sets a fair standard. Equipped with first-time cheekpieces, she can make her presence felt.

A beaten favourite on the opening weekend, Mathan can recover losses. Having been sent off market leader here over six furlongs, the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt took time for the penny to drop before rattling home late on. Given the way he saw out that race, stepping up an additional furlong now should really suit the son of Kodiac. Former Cheltenham bumper winner A Dream To Share was noted doing good late work over a mile here on the same card. Dropping back a furlong is certainly not ideal but he should be sharper for that run and has the class to get involved.

British raider Poet Master can record his second win over course and distance. Karl Burke’s gelding proved much too strong for the home opposition when easily landing the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes here in July.

Not disgraced when upped to the highest level in France subsequently, he proved that he can handle an ease.

Guineas entrant Camille Pissaro would have every chance if at his peak on season debut. A Group 1 winner in France on his final start at two, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt may be one that will improve from this initial outing.

J M’s Joy can get off the mark on what is only her second start for the Gavin Cromwell stable. Placed four times for Pat Martin as a juvenile, the daughter of Elzaam shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up at Dundalk recently. Stepping up an additional two furlongs here could possibly bring about enough improvement to register a first win.

Red Scarlet has to be of interest with Ben Coen a noteworthy booking. The fact that Coen appears to desert a Johnny Murtagh newcomer to ride for an outside stable suggests the filly must be pleasing connections.

Fourth in the Irish Lincoln on her reappearance, Indigo Five can claim her first win of the campaign. Although the handicapper decided to leave her on a mark of 90 following that effort, Wesley Joyce returns to the saddle here taking off an additional 5lb. A previous course winner over seven furlongs, the daughter of Fast Company should appreciate underfoot conditions.

Fort Vega, who finished two places behind the selection in the Lincoln, has to be respected under Colin Keane.

Drawn low on that occasion, he has a more favourable berth here which should allow his rider to come down the outside.

A winner over hurdles on her most recent start, Party Dress has to be of interest back on the flat. A staying on third over 10 furlongs at this venue in October, she showed plenty of promise without quite looking like the finished article last term. With the benefit of three runs over hurdles this winter, the Willie McCreery-trained mare should be a different proposition now.

Calzaghi is almost certainly ahead of the handicapper but needs to break better in order to exploit that assumption. Stepping up to 12 furlongs is likely to suit the son of Raven’s Pass.
