2.05 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF (C&G) MAIDEN 1M
Stellar Mass made a promising debut over this course and distance earlier in the month when finishing a 1l second to Restive. He should come forward from that initial outing and he might just have the measure of Beacon Rock who was also making his debut in that Curragh race when beaten just under 3½l into sixth. Beacon Rock should also progress well as a result of that run. Of the others that have run, Reckless Gold commands considerable respect on his third to Shogun here last month. This race contains several notable newcomers. Kidd Malibu is out of an American stakes winner and comes from a top yard while Sea Of Mystery, who holds some notable entries, is related to a number of very smart types.
Selection: STELLAR MASS
Next best: Beacon Rock
2.35 FLAME OF TARA EBF STAKES (LISTED) 1M
She looked a filly of considerable promise when making a winning start in a conditions race over 7f at this track several weeks ago and How High The Moon can make a successful first venture into stakes company.
There was a lot to like about her 1¾l defeat of Midnight Crossing and she can take this rise in class in her stride. She is chosen to account for Miss Katie Mae who was an unlucky loser in the Anglesey Stakes here last month when beaten a neck by Final Frontier. She shapes as though this longer trip will suit. Clear Skies and Diamond Fields are both maidens but the pair showed considerable promise last time and either could get involved.
Selection: HOW HIGH THE MOON
Next best: Miss Katie Mae
3.10 DEREK O’SULLIVAN MEMORIAL APPRENTICE HANDICAP (50-70) 1M 2F
Prussian Eagle can follow up a recent win in a lady riders’ 1m 4f handicap at Tipperary for which he picked up a 5lb rise in the weights. He does have to drop back in trip but that isn’t a major concern at this track and, once the ground is slow, he will be quite at home. Over the course of the winter he developed into a useful juvenile hurdler and his Tipperary effort indicated that he had improved since he was last in action on the flat.
Maknificent did well to win over an extended mile at Killarney last week and she will relish this longer trip. She is a strong contender. Three Colours Red is bidding for a hat-trick and will run well but he has crept up 20lb in the weights in the last fortnight.
Selection: PRUSSIAN EAGLE
Next best: Maknificent
3.45 ROUND TOWER STAKES (GROUP 3) 6F
Following her smooth maiden win at Leopardstown, Juliette Fair is selected. She ran out a commanding 4½l winner that day and that was her first run for over two months so there could easily be more to come from her. She might just reverse form with Rockaway Valley who had the benefit of a previous run when beating her by over 4l in a maiden over this course and distance in June.
Rockaway Valley is now rated 106 and was second in the Railway Stakes on his penultimate start while he should appreciate drop in class having contested the Phoenix Stakes last time. Smash Williams is an intriguing contender having annihilated his rivals in a 6f maiden last weekend. Redstaroverchina is also interesting following her 40/1 success in a Naas winners’ race.
Selection: JULIETTE FAIR
Next best: Rockaway Valley
4.20 DANCE DESIGN FILLIES STAKES (GROUP 3) 1M 1F
Bocca Baciata is the choice in a reasonably open edition of this race. The daughter of Big Bad Bob won a 1m 2f stakes race on slow ground earlier in the season and she bounced back from an unplaced run at Ascot to be beaten just over 2l by Wedding Vow in a Group 2 here last month.
On that last effort she has just a neck to find with the top rated runner, Brooch, and it is quite possible that could turn around that form. Brooch, already a Group 2 winner this season, commands the utmost respect and she is fitted with first time blinkers. The Irish 1000 Guineas third Devonshire is another to consider following her fine second in last week’s Ruby Stakes.
Selection: BOCCA BACIATA
Next best: Brooch
4.50 TOTE IRISH CAMBRIDGESHIRE 1M
The fast improving Algonquin can make it five wins in succession. After beginning his season with two handicaps wins, he made a successful transition to stakes level to beat Devonshire in the Ruby Stakes at Killarney last week. He has just a 5lb penalty to shoulder for his return to handicaps and his rate of progress is such that he should deal with this career high rating.
Hasanour is some 26lb higher than when third in this race last year. Since then he has won two premier handicaps and he was unlucky not to bring up a hat-trick in that sphere last time. Like Algonquin he is good enough to hold his own at a higher grade than this which means he warrants due consideration despite his position as joint top weight. Portage, who won a decent handicap at Ascot last time, is a smart three-year-old who lines up as one of the foremost contenders.
Selection: ALGONQUIN
Next best: Hasanour
5.20 BAM IRELAND HANDICAP 6F
Bainne could be in line to record her second course and distance win of the season. She is 6lb higher than when winning here two months ago but that isn’t a concern and she was entitled to finish a good deal closer than she actually did when seventh in the Scurry Handicap here on Oaks weekend.
This ground will suit her much better than the fast surface she encountered here last time. Dark Alliance is just 4lb higher than when striking in a similar handicap on Derby weekend. He has since run well to finish fifth in the Scurry Handicap. These could just be the two to focus on.
Selection: BAINNE
Next best: Dark Alliance
