Master Speaker can improve on last year’s excellent effort in this race. On that occasion he crossed the line in third before being promoted to second and throughout this season he has run with credit. He has just two wins to his name and the latter of those came early last year, but he has shown on a host of occasions that a premier handicap could be within his reach. He has a decent draw, any easing in the ground won’t be a concern, and his second in the Scurry Handicap here in July is a strong piece of form. He is preferred to Tribal Path for whom any softening in the ground would be major plus. This much-improved gelding wasn’t at his best at Dundalk last time, but his previous third in a quality 7f handicap at Galway, where he tried to make all, was a commendable effort. The Rockingham Handicap victor Sors is another to keep in mind.
Selection: MASTER SPEAKER

On ratings, Best In The World has plenty to spare over her rivals and she is put forward as a likely winner of a low key edition of this race, where just two of the runners are rated 100 or more. Found’s younger sister took time to find her form this season but her close sixth in a 1m1f Group 2 here in July was encouraging and she built on that to deny stablemate Somehow by a neck in a 1m4f Group 3 at Cork last month. She should cope with this drop back in trip. Shamreen can give her most to do. She finished in front of Best In The World at Cork in June but was then beaten by just over 5l by that rival back over that course and distance last month. Santa Monica comes here off a solid second to Adool in a Gowran listed event last time, but she may want quicker ground. Meanwhile, the listed-winning Planchart needs to bounce back from a below par run here last month.

Take Cover gets the vote, although he is another that wouldn’t want the ground to ease too much. The nine-year-old comes here in excellent heart having won a Group 2 over this trip at Goodwood before then finishing a fine third to Mecca’s Angel in the Nunthorpe Stakes. His compatriot Spirit Quartz has already made two successful raids to Ireland this season, the latter of which saw him win a 5f contest at Tipperary last month. This is a far stronger race, but he has shown that any easing in the ground will be no problem for him. Of those at bigger prices Only Mine could run well. A listed winner on soft ground and a Group 3 winner at Naas earlier in the season, she showed up well for a long way in the Sprint Cup at Haydock last weekend before eventually fading into seventh. That was her first run for three months so she could easily do better and she might have a better chance than her odds imply.

Slow ground is an unknown for him, but Parnassian appeals as one that could play a leading role. This colt looks a smart type, having won both his starts to date, and he appealed as one that could go on to hold his own at a higher grade when landing a novice event at Carlisle last month. Medicine Jack sets the standard on his Railway Stakes triumph, where he accounted for the subsequent Anglesey Stakes victor and Group 1-placed Peace Envoy. He didn’t match that form when third in the Phoenix Stakes last time. The 99-rated Mr Scaramanga has run to a decent standard and should make his presence felt, while another member of the home team that could show up well is Randall Stevens.
Selection: PARNASSIAN

Katiymann is a speculative choice. This lightly-raced four-year-old got off the mark in a mile maiden at Galway on his second start and he didn’t run at all badly for one so inexperienced when ninth in the Irish Cambridgeshire last time. He should sharpen up nicely as a result of that initial handicap experience and this longer trip should work in his favour. He is chosen ahead of the similarly unexposed Karalara. She won a maiden over this trip at Navan in June and posted a fine effort in a premier handicap over 1m at Galway to finish third to Creggs Pipes. There is definitely more to come from her and she should be closely involved. Another lightly-raced sort is Savannah Storm and he too is respected as he has the potential for considerable improvement after just two previous outings.
Selection: KATIYMANN
