12.50 COOLMORE LEADING LIGHT & OCAVANGO MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

The Gordon Elliott-trained Deadpan could be good enough to make a winning debut for the Gigginstown team here in what doesn’t appear a strong maiden hurdle. The son of Yeats cost €55,000 at the Derby Sale and is out of an unraced half-sister to a decent hurdler in My Wigwam Or Yours. Of those to have already run, soft/heavy ground flat winners Get Out Of Jail and Azamesse look the most obvious ones, having both made encouraging enough starts over timber.

Delegate is proving expensive to follow and didn’t look to get the 2m4f at Leopardstown but still holds the best form by virtue of his third to Falcon Crest over course and distance in November. The return to 2m seems sure to suit Gordon Elliott’s charge but a chance is taken on the Tony Martin-trained Tayto Park, whose comeback run here on New Year’s Day when second to the well-regarded Stoneford in a bumper augurs well here on his hurdling bow. Cahirconree has place claims on his second to Nambour here in November now back in trip.

Sumos Novios was a spent force when falling at the last over 3m at Leopardstown but his earlier defeat of Empire Of Dirt over this trip at Punchestown would give him every chance here as he steps outside of handicap company. Morning Assembly’s novice campaign of two seasons ago included a defeat of Don Cossack over this trip and ended in a RSA third, and while undoubtedly the class act of the race, may best watched here after a long absence. Both Lord Scoundrel and Seabass have claims on ratings in an open contest and have guaranteed fitness on their side.

Sunsetstorise eventually got off the mark over this course and distance 10 days ago and while he may have got the run of the race from the front, he should go well again despite a 9lb rise. He can confirm the form with third-placed Witness Of Fashion, winner of this race two years ago. Veteran Montana Slim has been showing up well of late and holds each-way claims, while Crowded Room, although struggling to make the breakthrough over fences, has also got to be considered for the minor money.

3.05 COOLMORE NH SIRES MARES NOVICE HURDLE (GRADE 3) 2M2F

Limini hasn’t been seen since making a winning hurdles debut at Punchestown last May but she looked good that day and the fact she holds Grade 1 entries in the coming weeks suggests she has been pleasing connections.

Rosie Alice comes here on a hat-trick but this looks a lot more competitive than her wins at Tramore and Limerick. A bigger threat may come from Cashelard Lady who has been thriving in testing conditions of late and comes here on the back of a runaway maiden win here on New Year’s Day, having previously chased home the smart Augusta Kate in a listed bumper at Navan.

Micras showed a tendency to jump left at Punchestown last time when fourth to Fighting Days but she still has time on her side, and the Thurles winner could find further improvement now upped to 2m4f. Jonathan Moore’s 5lb claim could prove crucial for the selection, whose trainer Pat Fahy has been in good form of late. Top-weight Coolaghknock Glebe ran well two starts back over course and distance and looks interesting now dropped in class, while towards the foot of the handicap Oisin James holds each-way claims now back to this trip, having looked to find 2m7f here last time beyond him, sentiments which also apply to Overtures.

SELECTION: MICRAS

Avellino split subsequent winners Lucky Pass and Any Drama on her debut here in November and confirmed that promise with a thumping Down Royal win over a Gordon Elliott-trained favourite on Stephens’ Day on heavy ground. Willie Mullins is represented by Good Thyne Tara, who made quite an impression on her debut at Limerick last May when comfortably beating the useful Ten Times Better and could be very smart. The pair look some way superior to the remainder of these, which are headed by last month’s Punchestown winner Gold Doubloons.
