SAINT-Cloud hosts tomorrow’s excellent card which features the Group 1 Grand Prix and the Group 2 Prix de Malleret.

Silverwave will try to become the sixth horse to land back-to-back wins in the Grand Prix and he will again come up against Erupt who was runner-up a year ago. Trained by Pascal Bary, Silverwave went to land the Prix Foy and, most recently, the Grand Prix de Chantilly where Left Hand finished fourth and Doha Dream last of five.

Later in the season, Erupt went to Woodbine where he ran on well to take the Grade 1 Pattinson Canadian International. The son of Dubawi reappeared in the 10 and a half-furlong Prix Ganay and finished a satisfactory fourth but behind Zarak and Silverwave. Erupt will be better suited to this mile and a half.

Zarak will be running over the trip for the first time. He was runner-up to Almanzor in last year’s Prix du Jockey Club and campaigned earlier in the season at Meydan where he won before taking fourth place in the Dubai Turf on testing ground.

Zarak was disappointing last time out when last of five in the nine and a quarter-furlong Prix d’Ispahan. Robin Of Navan was well ahead of him and the Harry Dunlop-trained four-year-old has since won the 10-furlong La Coupe at Chantilly.

Robin Of Navan has already won a Group 1 at Saint-Cloud as he easily defeated the Ganay winner Cloth Of Stars in the Criterium back in 2015. The other English runners are Hawkbill and My Dream Boat. Clive Cox saddled the latter to beat Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Found in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Ascot last year but he is held on more recent form by Hawkbill who was fifth in the Ganay.

Tiberian is on a hat-trick. He has accounted for Talismanic twice this year. This leaves Armande, who is jointly-owned and bred by France Galop President Edouard de Rothschild and Lady Chryss O’Reilly. The daughter of Sea The Stars outclassed her rivals in the Group 2 Prix Corrida at this track in May.

MALLERET

Three English fillies turn out for the Group 2 Prix de Malleret. John Gosden has obtained the services of Olivier Peslier for Elas Ruby, William Buick will be on board Vintage Folly for Hugo Palmer and Oisin Murphy rides Horseplay for Andrew Balding.

Elas Ruby looks spot on form as she showed when galloping on strongly to easily win a listed race at Newbury last month but she tackles a mile and a half.

The lightly-raced Vintage Folly was second in the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes to Shutter Speed who was then fourth in the Prix de Diane Longines. Horseplay was a listed winner at Newmarket and fourth to Enable in the Investec Oaks.

The Andre Fabre runner Strathspey won a maiden at Lyon-Parilly in May. Another interesting filly is the Aga Khan’s Baiyouna. Trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre, she won a newcomers’ race over 11 furlongs at Chantilly in May. Jean-Claude Rouget fields the more experienced Rythmique. She has been placed in two Group 3 races at this track but was behind Listen In when the two met in the Prix Penelope. Normandel was the comfortable winner of a listed race.

DEAUVILLE

Two fascinating Group 3 races take place. The five-furlong Prix du Bois is the first juvenile pattern race to be run in France this season. Fillies make up six of the field of seven. The only colt is the Eoghan O’Neill-trained Ardenode who has yet to taste defeat in two races and was nearly sent to Royal Ascot.

Wesley Ward, no stranger to France, saddles Elizabeth Darcy, with Olivier Peslier on board. She ran sixth in the Norfolk Stakes at Ascot and previously was a near eight-length winner in the US. Stan Moore sends Debutantes Ball over from Berkshire. She was well beaten in the Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot after a winning debut at Chepstow.

Yori represents German interests and Vok The Billy those of Italy. The French defence is the responsibility of Zonza and Hergame. The former won at Maisons-Laffitte last time after opening her account at Bordeaux Le Bouscat. Freddy Head trains Hergame. She won a newcomers’ event nicely at Chantilly in May.

The Prix de la Porte Maillot has attracted just five runners and they are all talented. John Gosden has booked Christophe Soumillon for Johnny Barnes and Olivier Peslier will partner Princess Asta for Mario Hofer.

The likely favourite is Godolphin’s Inns Of Court from the Andre Fabre stable. This Invincible Spirit colt carries a penalty after his win in the Group 3 Prix du Palais-Royal over the same distance. Spectre who ran so well when fourth to Ribchester at Ascot was fourth.

Johnny Barnes has not won since thrashing his opponents in the Group 3 Prix Quincey back at Deauville in August 2015. He was slowly away that day and also when running down the field in a listed race at Windsor in May.

The German filly Princess Asta ended her three-year-old career with a success in a Group 3 contest in Milan and she was fifth in a listed event at Hoppegarten this year.

Freddy Head trains Aladdine, an interesting filly who makes her debut over seven furlongs. Back in April, she was runner-up to the subsequent Jersey Stakes winner Le Brivido and has since won the Group 3 Prix Texanita at Maisons-Laffitte. Aladdine ran well below her best when only sixth to Muthmir in the Group 2 Prix du Gros-Chene at Chantilly last month.

The field is completed by African Ride, a listed winner at Chantilly in March on the all-weather track and eighth in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains.
