12.15 Geary’s Garage Kilmeedy 3Y0 Maiden Hurdle 2m

Palm Beach should be good enough to go one better than his recent course and distance second. A lightly raced type, who won his maiden on heavy ground for Aidan O’Brien at Listowel, he showed up well on his first attempt at hurdling and should be sharper now.

Local owner J.P. McManus will have plenty of runners over the next few days and this one can give him an early winner.

Star Of Cashel is an interesting contender despite his lack of previous experience. A real money spinner of the flat this year, he looked a tough, genuine sort who might just take to the winter game. It would be no surprise to see him make a bold bid if he is fit and ready first time up.

SELECTION: PALM BEACH

Diol Ker has been found wanting on his initial runs over fences so it looks a wise move reverting to flights here. An impressive maiden hurdle winner at Fairyhouse last November, the form of that race has been well advertised in the interim.

Provided that his interest is reignited by switching codes then he looks the one they all have to beat.

Clondaw Secret impressed with the manner of his win at Navan on his hurdling debut so has to be respected. A former point-to-point winner, he has only had the two career starts, so lack of experience is the main concern in this company.

He could well be an exciting hurdler going forward so could actually be well treated here.

Shadow Rider was well fancied on his hurdling debut at Navan but in hindsight he faced a tough task. The winner of that race has since won a Grade 2 hurdle, thus advertising the form. Willie Mullins’ charge faces a far easier task on his occasion so should be able to break his duck over flights.

Bal De Rio, who caught the eye on his stable debut at this very meeting last Christmas, has yet to win over hurdles but promises to do so. He showed his well-being with a close up second at Cork last time so arrives here in good form. The more of a stamina test this race becomes, the better his chances.

Tucanae can defy top weight here with promising young conditional jockey Oakley Brown taking off 7lb. A bumper winner on the corresponding card last year, Paul Nolan’s mare has done little wrong in the interim.

Just touched off at Galway on her return this year, she easily went one better when winning her maiden at Fairyhouse. She will appreciate stepping up to 2m 4f here and looks the one to beat.

Fairyhill Run will appreciate dropping in class, having run in listed/graded hurdles recently. John Ryan’s five-year-old ran one of her better races when second in a listed hurdle at this track in October, a reproduction of which would make her a serious threat.

Dawsons Gate is a speculative suggestion in a very competitive, if somewhat low-grade, affair. Eddie Harty’s runner may not jump off the page at first glance but there is little doubt that he possesses ability of sorts. A lightly raced gelding, with only seven career starts to date, it was his debut effort in a maiden hurdle at Galway, that gives rise to the belief he might be capable of better. Handicapped on the basis of two runs over fences, it is far too early to write him off.

Tomeric has shown little in almost a year but ran a big race over hurdles when third in a rated hurdle here last Christmas. If he can recapture that form returning to Limerick then he must be an interesting candidate here.

Present Road would have run out a convincing winner on her point-to-point debut in October but for falling at the last fence. She was four lengths in front at the time with the race apparently in safe keeping.

The subsequent winner has gone on to finish second in a bumper in Britain, indicating that the form may not be too bad. She is worth an interest here representing a trainer that wouldn’t be known for his bumper horses.

Ardera Ru shaped really well on her rules debut when fifth in a listed bumper at Navan. Although well behind the principals, she showed plenty of promise and will find this easier.
