1.43 Party Time Ltd Mares Hurdle 2m

On ratings, this looks a clearcut opportunity for the Willie Mullins-trained Jalila Moriviere. J.P. McManus’ French recruit faces just two rivals and has 14lb in hand of one, and 26lb with the other. Whether she’s as good as her mark of 136 suggests is hard to say on the basis of her defeat here over Christmas. That was her Irish debut in a better race than this, though, and dropping back to two miles ought to suit.

Useful bumper mare Mongibello can give her most to think about, having run reasonably enough when fifth to Aurora Vega in a Grade 3 novice hurdle last time. Lep Around was tailed off over fences only eight days ago.

SELECTION: JALILA MORIVIERE

Making his first start since switching to Shark Hanlon from Paul Hennessy, the in-form Falcon Park doesn’t look to be in the deepest of company and might be able to cope with another 6lb rise. He was second in what looked a more competitive race on Thyestes Day at Gowran last time, having traded as short as 1/14 in running, and his previous Clonmel form has since been boosted by the third, Moudan, winning his next two.

Drop The Anchor is coming down the weights and didn’t run badly last time at Gowran. He needs another step forward to win this, but might be dangerous to underestimate. Royal Reprobate, a beaten favourite last time with Gavin Cromwell, debuts for Ross O’Sullivan.

It’s a little concerning that we haven’t seen him in just over a year but the debut bumper effort of Good N’ Kind was a highly promising one and he could make up for lost time here. The winner, Port Joulain, is now rated 132 and this Henry de Bromhead-trained six-year-old previously was a wide-margin point-to-point scorer.

Dr Eggman, rated 123, has a clear experience edge over the selection and was returning from 302 days off when second at Punchestown last month. He mightn’t be open to as much improvement as Good N’ Kind but has plenty in his favour in terms of race sharpness, and he is a year older too.

SELECTION: GOOD N’ KIND

3.28 SIS Handicap Chase 2m 3f 120yds

A tidy little handicap chase that will take a bit of winning. Top-weight Springt De La Mare is chasing a hat-trick and commands respect, though the ground could be better than he encountered the last twice. A tentative vote instead goes to another of the in-form candidates, Don’t Talk, who is seeking a third straight win of his own. After two victories in four days, Karl Thornton has freshened up his four-time winner and this trip might prove ideal for him. Racing off 7lb higher than the second of those wins asks a new question of him, but he has run well off similar marks over hurdles.

The Lovely Man is an intriguing stable switcher to Gavin Cromwell from Colm Murphy and is worth keeping an eye on in the market. Aslukwoodhavit could be one to appreciate the better ground than last time, while Philip Fenton’s pair of Good As Hell and Linden Arden are noted for a market check given they’ve both been absent since September.

SELECTION: DON’T TALK

Next best: Springt De La Mare

4.03 Hugh McMahon Memorial Novice Chase (Grade 3) 3m 150yds

Monbeg Park comes here with his confidence up after winning a valuable pot at Leopardstown last time, though his task was made easier when his main rival, Tyre Kicker, was impeded at a key stage. He’s the clear choice on ratings but this trip isn’t certain to be his optimum (likely best at mid-range distances) and he had been a frustrating type to follow previously.

Fun Fun Fun is stepping into questionable territory too in terms of stamina, having faded over two miles and a furlong last time, but one guaranteed to get home is Shannon Royale, a three-mile beginners’ chase winner over High Class Hero earlier this season at Punchestown. It hasn’t clicked for him in big handicap chases the last twice, though he was only 9/1 for the Thyestes when pulling up, and perhaps reverting to this company could bring out the best in him. He can continue an excellent week for Gordon Elliott, while Harry Des Ongrais is entitled to be on the premises for Henry de Bromhead if building on his latest Gowran win over two and a half miles.

SELECTION: SHANNON ROYALE

Tom Cooper had Shuttle Diplomacy run a belter to finish third at 66/1 in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham last week and a visit to the winner’s enclosure on home soil could be incoming for capable mare Sainte Dona, if managing to see out this longer trip. The trip is a little query for her, but the way she rallied over two miles and six furlongs on heavy ground last time means she’s probably worth a try back at this distance again.

Banprionsa has put two solid runs back-to-back the last twice and she might now be ready for going back up in distance to this trip. A mark of 112 is probably reasonable enough for her. Whateys Quest gets first-time cheekpieces and could bounce back on better ground than last time.

SELECTION: SAINTE DONA

5.13 Kevin McManus Bookmaker Champion Flat Race (Listed) 2m

This is plenty competitive and could go the way of Carrigmoorna Beech, who created a fine impression when winning at Gowran on Thyestes Day. There isn’t much form to work on for determining how good a performance that was, but connections were adamant there was improvement to come from the 12-length success, which is certainly promising.

Light Up The Dark readily won a bumper in attritional conditions for four-year-olds at Naas and has since switched to J.P. McManus. More will be learned about her in this grade, but she looks a smart type. Oneinthewell impressed at Leopardstown, is fully entitled to a crack at this and reopposes with Eternal Echo. Thiscouldbetheone is of interest as a brother to the same team’s Cheltenham Festival winner, City Island.
