Aidan O’Brien poses an interesting conundrum to punters here with his two runners Best Kept Secret and King Of Aragon. The latter is rated 26lb superior to the former on the flat and was sent off as the well-backed 13/8 favourite on his hurdling debut at Punchestown, while Best Kept Secret was allowed to go off at 25/1 in the same race. Despite this, it was Best Kept Secret that fared the better of the two, finishing 10 lengths in front of his stablemate on his way to finishing second to Jazz Ranger. While both of them can be expected to improve from that, it is significant that Barry Geraghty now elects to ride Best Kept Secret and he is selected to uphold that form.

Selection: BEST KEPT SECRET

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Plinth may have plenty to find with Sempre Medici based on official handicap ratings, but his proven stamina could well prove to be the key to his success. He has been acquitting himself reasonably well in stronger company in recent starts and the fact that he has won over as far as two miles and six furlongs is a notable advantage over his main rival.

Sempre Medici will be exceptionally hard to beat if getting the trip, but the manner in which he went from travelling well to weakening in his only run over two-and-a-half miles at Punchestown in May raises concerns about his stamina for this trip.

1:55 WOODLANDS PARK 100 CLUB NOVICE CHASE (GRADE 2) 3M

Clashes between high-class prospects trained by Willie Mullins outside of the spring festivals are becoming more and more common and his two representatives make this a highly-intriguing contest.

Pont Alexandre had a huge reputation during his novice hurdle campaign in 2012/13 and while he has clearly been very hard to keep right since then, he made a highly-impressive winning return to action in a maiden chase at Punchestown last month. He seems sure to improve from that and will be tough to beat. His main danger is his stable mate Roi Des Francs, who created a good impression in his own right when winning a maiden chase at Fairyhouse.

Selection: PONT ALEXANDRE

Haymount is unlikely to prove to be one of Willie Mullins’ stable stars, but he should prove up to winning a maiden hurdle such as this. The seven-year-old won a two and a half mile bumper at Tipperary in April and while he shaped with plenty of promise on his hurdling debut at Thurles, the extended two and three quarter mile trip may have found him out back at that track last time.

This shorter trip will help his cause and he is the one to beat. Of the remainder new to hurdling, the Paul Nolan-trained Tuzo is of interest having won a bumper at Wexford in October.

Selection: HAYMOUNT

Next Best: Tuzo

Competitive fare here and preference is given to the Christy Roche-trained Tangled Web. The eight-year-old won a bumper and a maiden hurdle before missing over two and a half years of action, but made an encouraging return in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown last month.

The longer trip seemed to catch him out on that occasion and the return to this trip, coupled with the benefit of that run under his belt, could well be enough to see him come out on top in this. Of the rest, the Shay Barry-trained Lake Field is of obvious interest, as he looked sure to win at Limerick last time only to fall at the final flight.

Another competitive handicap and another vote given to one sporting the JP McManus silks in the shape of the Robert Tyner-trained Mount Brandon.

The seven-year-old won a point-to-point two years ago, but had shown precious little over hurdles and over fences until coming to life when well backed on his handicap chase debut at Punchestown last time, just being touched off by Rolling Rocket. A 4lb rise for that is unlikely to be enough to stop him going close in this. The best of the rest could well be the James Dullea-trained Line View who comes into this on the back of a solid run over hurdles.

4:10 TIPPER ROAD (PRO/AM) FLAT RACE 2M 3F

Recent winners of this race include Tombstone, Killultagh Vic, Jessies Dream and Hairy Molly, but this renewal doesn’t look especially strong on paper. The pick of those with bumper form looks to be the Oliver McKiernan-trained Cappuccino Man, with the five-year-old having proved his stamina when second to Winsome Bucks in a two and a half mile contest at Leopardstown last time. His most interesting rival is the Gordon Elliott-trained Woods Well, with him having gone close in a point-to-point at Ballindenisk in November.
