1.35 Tifrums Irish EBF (C&G) Maiden 6F
San Andreas is chosen to build on an encouraging debut fourth over 7f at this track earlier in the month when he was beaten 4l by Smart Flies.
There should be plenty of improvement to come from this son of Dark Angel who shouldn’t have any trouble coming back in distance.
His biggest threat could come from Dark Endeavour who made a bright start to his career by being beaten just under 3l into fourth in a maiden over this course and distance last month which was won by the subsequently stakes-placed Eclipse Storm.
SELECTION: SAN ANDREAS
NEXT BEST: Dark Endeavour
2.05 Rathasker Stud Irish EBF Fillies Maiden 6F
This could see Chamrousse deliver on the promise of her neck second to Smart Flies in a 7f maiden at this track several weeks ago.
That run represented a progression on her debut fifth behind Fire Fly in a Tipperary maiden and she should be able to do better again.
I Remember You looks the pick of the Ballydoyle contingent and she offered plenty of encouragement for the future with her fifth to Secret Thoughts in a maiden at this track in June. The form of that race looks quite solid and she should run well on her return from a 116-day break.
SELECTION: CHAMROUSSE
NEXT BEST: I Remember You
2.35 Matchbook Irish EBF Birdcatcher Premier Nursery 6F
Yolo Again, who has run nine times at the minimum trip, can make a successful first venture over 6f.
Admittedly she is 10lbs higher than when winning a nursery here last month but a very respectable sixth in last week’s Group 3 Conrwallis Stakes at Newmarket indicated that she could still be improving.
She is preferred to the smart Recon Mission who followed a clear cut nursery success at Fairyhouse with an honourable second to All The King’s Men in a Navan Listed race last weekend.
SELECTION: YOLO AGAIN
NEXT BEST: Recon Mission
3.10 Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Race Final 7F
This could fall to the promising Gustavus Weston. He progressed nicely from an encouraging debut fourth at Gowran Park to win a 6f Fairyhouse maiden in good style last month.
The return to this longer trip should not be a problem for him and, with his yard in tremendous heart, he can overcome a less than ideal draw. He could be given most to do by Army Recruit who is 4lbs better off with Dark Pursuit for a 3/4l beating at Down Royal while he showed up well last time to finish a creditable 2l second to Circus Maximus in a Gowran maiden.
SELECTION: GUSTAVUS WESTON
NEXT BEST: Army Recruit
3.45 Rathasker Clodvil Irish EBF Garnet Stakes (Listed) 1M
Making Light can improve on last year’s runner-up finish in this race. She finished down the field in a Leopardstown Group 2 last time but was found to be lame afterwards so that run is best forgotten.
She is much better judged on a series of excellent runs this season which include a victory in the Group 3 Park Express Stakes and an impressive defeat of the subsequent Group 3 winner Pincheck in the Platinum Stakes at Cork two months ago.
It wouldn’t come as a surprise if Moteo chased her home. That one progressed very well from her debut triumph in a Leopardstown maiden to finish third to Ship Of Dreams in last week’s Navigation Stakes at Cork.
SELECTION: MAKING LIGHT
NEXT BEST: Moteo
4.15 Thank You Paddy & Cathy Timmons Apprentice Handicap (50-70) 1M 2F
The veteran Vastonea gets the vote as he bids for the seventh victory of a distinguished career.
He didn’t produce his best over 1m 4f here earlier in the month but his previous runner-up finishes in 1m 2f handicaps won by Perfect Tapatino and Sheila’s Hope give plenty of encouragement regarding his chances here.
The top weight Castle Guest has finished a place behind Vastonea on his last two outings and he is a pound better off with the selection for a ½l beating at the Curragh last month.
SELECTION: VASTONEA
NEXT BEST: Castle Guest
4.50 matchbook time to move over handicap 1m 2f
Joseph O’Brien’s Downdraft could be worth taking a chance on. He won a decent three-year-old 1m 2f handicap at Navan in early June and ran well in a Royal Ascot handicap but he has struggled to recapture that form since contesting the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris.
He is a better horse than his rating suggests and he might able to reverse last month’s Curragh form with Tudor City who ran a tremendous race in defeat to chase home Hamley in the valuable 10-furlong “Northfields” handicap on Irish Champions Weekend.
SELECTION: DOWNDRAFT
NEXT BEST: Tudor City
5.20 Rathasker Bungle Inthejungle Stakes (Listed) 1M 4F
She is a relatively lightly raced filly whose last two runs are quite encouraging so Bongiorno gets a speculative vote. She defeated the subsequent Oyster Stakes winner Baby Pink in a Roscommon maiden early last month and she showed up well to be beaten less than 3l by the same rival in that aforementioned Galway listed race.
She is entitled to progress again after just five runs and she can deal with the stakes-winning Kalaxana who drops down in class following several outings at Group 3 level, the latest of which saw her finish third to Mootasadir in the Diamond Stakes at Dundalk.
SELECTION: BONGIORNO
NEXT BEST: Kalaxana
