1.50 Lily & Wild At The Post Maiden Hurdle 1m 7f 110y
Runner-up at this venue on his most recent start, the Willie Mullins-trained Kalix Delabarriere can go one better. Although he was well-beaten at the finish, the winner of that aforementioned race franked the form, when landing a Grade 3 contest at Clonmel subsequently. Granted normal improvement from what was just his second run over flights, the five-year-old can open his account.
Point-to-point winner Son Of Anarchy has been somewhat disappointing in two starts over hurdles to date. However, the J.P. McManus-owned gelding should be capable of better once connections find his optimum trip.
SELECTION: KALIX DELABARRIERE
Next best: Son Of Anarchy
2.20 William Hill Top Price Guarantee Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 3) 1m 7f 110y
Recent course and distance winner, Bacchanalian looks to have been found a nice opportunity to follow up. Not disgraced in Grade 1 company at the Dublin Racing Festival, the Declan Queally-trained four-year-old resumed winning ways with a battling display here earlier this month. At these weights, the Siyouni gelding looks the horse to beat.
Galway flat maiden winner, Shoda finished behind Bacchanalian on her hurdling debut at Limerick over Christmas. Although the Joseph O’Brien-trained filly is entitled to improve for that experience, she is worse off at the weights now.
SELECTION: BACCHANALIAN
Next best: Shoda
2.50 Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) 2m 4f
Having run with credit in slightly stronger races of late, Fleur In The Park should appreciate this easier assignment. Just touched off in a Grade 2 contest at Navan on his penultimate start, the Andrew Slattery-trained gelding may not have stayed the extended trip at Limerick on his most recent outing. This affords the six-year-old every chance of winning a blacktype race.
Bumper winner Jacob’s Ladder stepped up on a promising hurdling debut to win at Navan last time. The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding is going the right way, so has to hold every chance in this tight-knit contest.
SELECTION: FLEUR IN THE PARK
Next best: Jacob’s Ladder
3.20 William Hill Keep Your Raceday Positive Handicap Hurdle 1m 7f 110y
A listed handicap chase winner over fences, Captains Nephew, has to be of interest off this lower hurdles mark. With excellent young conditional Tiernan Power Roche taking an addition 5lb off, the Philip Rothwell-trained gelding should take plenty of beating. Any fears of the eight-year-old getting tapped for toe over this trip are allayed by the testing conditions.
Recent course and distance winner, Duke Of Leggagh was raised 7lb for that success. However, with that victory coming in a conditional jockeys race, his regular rider wasn’t able to claim his allowance. Able to do so now, that claim offsets the subsequent weight increase.
SELECTION: CAPTAINS NEPHEW
Next best: Duke Of Leggagh
3.50 Pertemps Network Group Handicap Hurdle (Qualifier) 2m 7f 20y
Will The Wise could prove to be well-treated on his first foray into handicap company. A point-to-point and bumper winner, the Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding has run well in three of his four starts over flights to date. The form of his recent maiden hurdle win at Punchestown has been franked by the third horse subsequently.
Bridie’s Beau, also trained by Gavin Cromwell, commands respect. A winner at Punchestown in January, he was hit with a 14lb rise, but belied that impost with a battling display at Gowran Park last time.
SELECTION: WILL THE WISE
Next best: Bridie’s Beau
4.20 William Hill Proper Prices (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race 1m 7f 110y
The Gordon Elliott-trained Spinningayarn can maintain his unbeaten record. A point-to-point winner at Ballyknock last March, the gelding made a winning start to his rules career, when landing a Navan bumper last month. With plenty of pre-race chat around for both the second and third placed horses, that is likely to prove an above average contest.
Fairyhouse bumper winner, I’ll Sort That will need to take another step forward, but is a lightly raced unexposed individual. Trainer Declan Queally has been having an incredible season and this five-year-old looks a decent prospect.
SELECTION: SPINNINGAYARN
Next best: I’ll Sort That
4.50 William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Nas Na Riogh
Novice Handicap Chase (Listed) 2m 4f 29y
Although pulled up in the Thyestes last time, Shannon Royale looks the one to beat. The Gordon Elliott-trained seven-year-old had been in good form prior to that below par effort.
A prominent racer, the gelding should be suited to this small field, where he can stamp his authority on his rivals from the outset. Connections have also elected to claim 5lb, with James Smith in the saddle.
Point-to-point winner, No Flies On Him failed to build on his initial promise over hurdles, but remains of interest as a chaser. Edward O’Grady’s six-year-old is a lightly-raced gelding, who still has plenty of time on his side.
SELECTION: SHANNON ROYALE
Next best: No Flies On Him
5.20 DAR Golf Newlands Chase (Grade 3) 2m
Blood Destiny should have enough class to concede weight to rivals in this finale. A smart novice chaser over the minimum trip last season, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding remains open to improvement. With the extended trip having almost certainly stretched his stamina on his comeback at Thurles last month, the six-year-old should be much better suited to the minimum distance here.
Veteran Espanito Bello has to be respected, given that he seldom runs a bad race at this venue. Although now in the latter stages of his career, the Barry Connell-trained gelding cannot be ruled out.
SELECTION: BLOOD DESTINY
Next best: Espanito Bello
