12:50 Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden 6f
Vivaia ran very well in a hot maiden on her debut at Naas back in June, a run that suggests she could turn out to be a smart filly. She finished fifth in a maiden won by Sacred Bridge, with Agartha in second and Sablonne in third. This doesn’t look as strong a race and if progressing since, she is the one to beat.
Tartan Skirt ran with plenty of promise on her debut and the switch to six furlongs is sure to suit Michael O’Callaghan’s filly. She was only beaten by three-quarters of a length fourth at Punchestown when she was just headed late on.
SELECTION: VIVAIA
Next best: Tartan Skirt
1:20 Staffordstown Stud Stakes (Listed) 1m
A good renewal can go the way of Limiti Di Greccio. Paddy Twomey’s filly relished the step up to listed company on Irish Champions Weekend, going down by half a length to Panama Red. She won her maiden at the Foxrock venue on ground similar to what’s expected on this occasion, so the conditions pose no worries.
Willesee is very interesting. The Gleneagles filly was a runaway winner of a maiden the over course and distance a fortnight ago and could be anything now.
SELECTION: LIMITI DI GRECCIO
Next best: Willesee
1:55 Hatstone Solicitors Waterford Testimonial Stakes (Listed) 6f
Wins seem hard to come by for Teresa Mendoza, but Ken Condon’s filly has been holding her form well in listed and group company this season and this could be her chance. Her listed and group form in Ireland this season reads 43233 on ground from good to yielding. She likes it around the Curragh and looks set to run well again.
Gyldan is unexposed and a potentially dangerous opponent. She was a smart winner of a Tipperary maiden in June and wasn’t disgraced in Group 3 company on her last start over course and distance.
SELECTION: TERESA MENDOZA
Next best: Gyldan
2:30 Duralock Racecourse Fencing Handicap 5f
Top weight That’s Mad has won three of his last four and he can win again. Leanne Breen’s gelding took another step forward when scoring nicely over the course and distance last time out. Kevin Manning was on board for those successes and is back in the plate again.
Only Spoofing is a nine-time winner and looked to return to bit of form when a close fourth at Bellewstown last week. He has failed to reach the heights of his second in the Dash at Epsom on Derby day but he’s coming back down the handicap to a winnable mark and he may not be far away.
SELECTION: THAT’S MAD
Next best: Only Spoofing
3:05 Paddy Power Irish Cesarewitch (Premier Handicap) 2m
The last five winners of this contest have carried 9st or less, so it usually pays dividends to look at the bottom half of the weights. Exchange Rate is the pick. He returned to the track this year after nearly three years off, running well in defeat at Listowel and then in the Connacht Hotel Handicap at Galway. He’s a four-time winner who will have no problem with the trip and the ground. This has probably been the target since his return for Willie Mullins, who is always a huge threat in these long-distance flat handicaps.
Turnpike Trip won the Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket in good style and was second in the Ulster edition behind Anyonecanhaveitall. He looks well treated off a mark of 88 and is sure to be primed for this.
SELECTION: EXCHANGE RATE
Next best: Turnpike Trip
3:40 Bord Na Mona Recycling Apprentice Handicap 1m
Dual course winner Pretty Rebel has been in good form recently and can continue her progression. She didn’t get the clearest of runs at Musselburgh when finishing second on her last run but can run off the same mark again. Dean Curran claims 4lbs off the top-weight who could well prove hard to beat.
The return to a mile will suit Andrew MacNamara’s Very Excellent. He nearly got to Church Mountain at Galway over seven furlongs, and he didn’t get home over an extended nine furlongs at Listowel last time.
SELECTION: PRETTY REBEL
Next best: Very Excellent
4:15 Sentinel Ireland Handicap 6f
The switch to handicapping has seen Karlsberg progress nicely and she can win again off a 5lb higher mark. She was a good third in a 30-runner field over this course and distance before going on to score at Cork off a mark of 65.
Seamie Heffernan retains the ride and this Coulsty filly should be able to progress again with conditions to suit.
Gerard and Colin Keane team up with Secret Road who showed a great attitude to win last time out at Cork. A 9lbs rise seems a little harsh but he remains lightly raced and open to further improvement so could well be a threat.
SELECTION: KARLSBERG
Next best: Secret Road
