This may go to one with experience, so it could be worth siding with Dublin Journal. Third at this track last month, he showed improvement from his debut at Punchestown when he was outpaced in the final furlong by two smart-looking types. The step up to nine furlongs will suit and if continuing to improve, he may prove too strong. Aidan O’Brien’s juveniles are starting to motor. He runs two here and Carlisle Bay could well be up to making an impact first time out.

The hat-trick-seeking Teed Up makes most appeal. The three-year-old son of Gleneagles has won his last two and now competes off a mark of 86. He showed resilience at Galway and Roscommon to keep on well inside the closing stages of both. A reproduction of that level should be enough to land this one, with the likely soft ground to suit. Listed third Agitare got his nose in front at Listowel at the 12th time of asking last time. He had previously run well when fourth in the Irish Cambridgeshire and in-form rider Luke McAteer takes 7lbs off his back.

This looks the perfect opportunity for Royal Lodge second Ontario to get back to winning ways. Third in the Futurity at the Curragh before finishing runner-up on the Rowley Mile, he rates a clear form pick. His rating of 109 sets a hefty standard and he can handle soft ground.

Cosmic Vega, a Jessica Harrington-trained son of Lope De Vega, impressive when scoring in a Leopardstown maiden on his debut, looks the biggest danger. That win came on heavy, so soft conditions should prove no problem.

It’s worth giving Albigna another chance to get her first win of the season. Beaten favourite in the Irish 1000 Guineas and in the Snow Fairy Stakes, she showed signs of rejuvenation when fifth by four and a quarter lengths in the Matron Stakes. The 3lb filly’s allowance could prove vital, and if she can back up that Leopardstown effort, she’ll be hard to beat.

Laughifuwant can build on his Cambridgeshire win to be involved. A dual premier handicap scorer, he was placed twice at listed level last year at Cork and Leopardstown. He needed the run at Galway on his seasonal reappearance and bounced back brilliantly at the Curragh. Vatican City has been disappointing since his good run in the Irish 2000 Guineas but is clearly a threat at this level.

Handicap debutante Soul Seeker shaped well at the Curragh and can go well. The son of Oasis Dream has been knocking on the door in maidens – his form reading 4523 – the second at Naas when beaten by a nose by Elusive King. His pedigree suggests he should be close off a mark of 75, with Dylan Browne McMonagle’s 7lb claim a major boost.

Sheer Bravado was impressive at Listowel and has taken well to handicaps. He has a 12lb rise to deal with, but is improving, and could progress again.

Hell Left Loose and Angel Palanas bring winning form, with the former getting the nod on this occasion. He has three wins out of his last five, and was unlucky last time at Listowel. He retains a mark of 65 so with a clearer run he should go close. Dropping down in the weights, Tanseeq could be of interest for John McConnell. Placed in a Leopardstown handicap off 70 in July, he was a dual winner in Britain for William Haggas. He is yet to make a real impact since moving over but could have a say today off 69.

Cracking Name is bidding for a fifth course-and-distance success. The David Marnane-trained six-year-old added the most recent of those victories here last month, after finishing third in Leopardstown handicaps in July and August. Three-year-old Angel’s Trumpet was second on his handicap debut at Gowran, followed by a fourth-place finish at this venue. The son of Dark Angel makes appeal off a mark of 60.

Hazard, a 55,000gns three-year-old by Slade Power, has not been seen since finishing three lengths fourth behind Nullifier at Navan last October. He was slowly away there but showed a taking turn of foot inside the closing stages to run on for fourth. If fit enough today, he can go close.

Hilltop’s Dream is interesting on his debut for the master sprint trainer Denis Hogan. Bought for 250,000gns as a yearling, he was unraced at two and picked up for just 2,000gns at a horses-in-training sale in July. Given the stable’s record with such acquisitions, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him make an impact.
