6.00 TRAMORE SUPPORTERS CLUB (M) BEGINNERS CHASE 2M
Willie Mullins looks likely to get his visit to Waterford off to a winning start courtesy of Screaming Rose. The six-year-old won her first two starts over hurdles and has acquitted herself well without winning in useful company since then. Her official rating of 131 over hurdles stands out in this company and it wouldn’t be at all surprising if she makes a winning chasing debut in this contest despite the trip being well short of her best. Of those that won’t have any concerns about the trip, the Joseph O’Brien-trained Kalopsia makes the most appeal, as she was set to go close on her chasing debut at Roscommon last month only to fall at the final fence.
Selection: SCREAMING ROSE
Next best: Kalopsia
6.30 TRAMORE RACECOURSE DIRECTORS HANDICAP CHASE (0-109) 2M
This is a competitive fare and preference is given to the Shay Barry-trained Patsio. The nine-year-old ran his best race yet over fences when a close third in a handicap chase at Killarney last month and if he can build on that effort on what will only be his fourth start in a handicap chase, he is likely to go close. A solid alternative to him is the Gordon Elliott-trained Dawerann, with the eight-year-old having plenty of solid form at this level in the book in recent months.
Selection: PATSIO
Next best: Dawerann
7.00 AUGUST FESTIVAL 17TH-20TH MAIDEN HURDLE 2M
This is a weak maiden hurdle and the one that makes the most appeal is the John Ryan-trained Banquet Hill. The six-year-old has a solid chance based on his fourth-place finish to Coolmeen Hill in a maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe last month and, while he disappointed on his next start at Downpatrick and then unseated his rider at the first hurdle back at Ballinrobe on Monday, he is worth taking a chance on to bounce back to form in this poor company.
The biggest danger to him could well be the Edward O’Grady-trained Chapelier, with the five-year-old having shown improvement when fourth in a maiden hurdle at Clonmel last time.
Selection: BANQUET HILL
Next best: Chapelier
7.30 MCCARTHYS FUEL AND BUILDERS HANDICAP HURDLE (80-95) 2M
A huge field for this handicap, but one who jumps off the page is the Henry De Bromhead-trained Mullinavat. The eight-year-old has taken time to get his act together, but he got off the mark on his very first start for De Bromhead when winning a handicap chase off a mark of 102 at Wexford last month.
With him being rated 27lb lower over hurdles than his revised mark over fences, he is an obvious leading candidate for this contest. A solid alternative to the selection is The Irritator, with the six-year-old having run very well in his last two starts in similar company.
Selection: MULLINAVAT
Next best: The Irritator
8.00 WWW.TRAMORE-RACECOURSE.COM MAIDEN HURDLE 2M 5F
Not a strong maiden hurdle. Perhaps the Willie Mullins-trained Senewalk can make it third-time lucky over hurdles. The five-year-old was once whispered as being a high-class novice hurdler in the making, but the form he has shown in his two starts over hurdles to date has been fair at best. However, this is the weakest contest he has run in and he could well be capable of capitalising on that fact. The pick of his rivals could well be the Seamus Neville-trained Novano, with the five-year-old having shown significant improvement to finish a close fourth in a maiden hurdle at Limerick last time.
Selection: SENEWALK
Next best: Novano
8.30 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF HANDICAP HURDLE (80-109) 2M 5F
Once again, it is Henry De Bromhead that is responsible for the standout contender in this handicap hurdle in the shape of Heron Heights. The eight-year-old has been operating at a useful level over fences in the last year, rising to an official rating of 138. Thus, he is of obvious interest off a mark of just 102 on his return to the smaller obstacles which he has had just four starts over. Perhaps his most interesting rival is the Ado McGuinness-trained Face Value with the nine-year-old coming into this off the back of a very good effort at Down Royal last week.
Selection: HERON HEIGHTS
Next best: Face Value
9.00 IRISH STALLIONFARMS EBF (M) INH FLAT RACE 2M
Liz Doyle has a fine record in bumpers and she could well provide the winner of this contest with Emmas Dilemma. The five-year-old has run very well on both her starts to date, most recently finishing second to Champagne Lady at Kilbeggan. If she can build on that, she will be tough to beat. Of the newcomers, the Gordon Elliott-trained Osco Mosco catches the eye being from the family of Nick The Brief.
Selection: EMMAS DILEMMA
