Toor Hawk, who belied huge odds when a staying on fourth on her hurdling debut at this track back in March, could be the answer in this opening heat. The six-year-old shaped with plenty of promise on that occasion, giving the impression that this step up in trip was just what she needed.
Although a long absence has to be a slight concern, she appears to hold leading claims if fit enough on this reappearance.
Clancypantz has some solid placed form to her name and arrives her with the best official rating in the line-up. The daughter of Fame And Glory stepped up on her seasonal return to run two solid races since then and a similar effort should be her go very close.
SELECTION: TOOR HAWK

Eversosaucy can take this second division for the Conor O’Dwyer/Ricky Doyle team. A lightly raced type with just the six starts to date, she has improved with each run and her turn seems near. Following on from a solid return over 2m at Roscommon, the six-year-old benefited from that pipe opener when a staying on third at Sligo last time. With another 2f to travel now she looks very much the one to beat.
Westcoast Tiger makes her hurdling debut now after two promising runs in bumpers. She has to be given a chance representing a powerful stable but may just lack the experience of some of her rivals now. Whatever she does this afternoon, she is one that will improve in the future.
SELECTION: EVERSOSAUCY
Next best: Westcoast Tiger

Trenchtown Rock is a speculative suggestion returning to a track where he has won twice before. In fact, those two wins are his only career successes to date so he clearly enjoys the south east venue. While the majority of his form has been over shorter than this 2m4f trip, he was just touched off at Bellewstown last summer. As a son of Big Bad Bob the softer ground conditions should also aid his cause.
Dave And Bernie had been knocking on the door prior to winning at Ballinrobe last time so has to be considered once again. Michael Barry is well adept at keeping one in good form once hitting its peak so the son of Papal Bull may have more to offer.
SELECTION: TRENCHTOWN ROCK
Next best: Dave And Bernie

Paloma Blue should be spot on for this assignment following a very encouraging comeback run at Killarney last month.
Henry de Bromhead’s eight-year-old had been sent off relatively short in the betting for the Grand Annual at Cheltenham when last seen but disappointed on that occasion. Prior to that, he had some very strong form in handicap chases in this country, some of which would make him hard to beat here.
Ornua, a stablemate of the selection, has been mixing it over hurdles and fences of late. The son of Mahler is a previous course and distance winner at Wexford so the tight track will hold no fears. First-time cheekpieces are applied here so that may also prove a positive.
SELECTION: PALOMA BLUE
Next best: Ornua

Rapid Response may be worth forgiving a slightly disappointing run at Tramore last time as she failed to act on the track. The mare jumped and hung to her left throughout so may be better judged here returning to a left-handed track.
A decent handicap hurdler last season, she has shown enough in a short career over fences to suggest she is capable of winning a beginners’ chase.
The White Volcano had been showing gradual progress over fences last year before failing to justify the tag of favouritism at Down Royal. He was then pulled up in a very strong contest at Navan before going off on his summer break. After an encouraging return at Roscommon recently he could be a leading player now.
SELECTION: RAPID RESPONSE

Rudy Catrail will be difficult to beat if in the same form as when easily landing a handicap hurdle at Tipperary recently.
On that occasion, the nine-year-old made all the running, galloping his rivals in submission and having the race won some way from home. Prior to that win he had finished second at this track so is unlikely to have any issues on that score. The more rain that falls the better as he just seems to keep galloping.
Ask Cory has to be respected on his first start for the Henry de Bromhead yard. Placed on three occasions for his former handler, he showed up well under today’s rider at Navan last season. Perhaps it is significant that Flanagan retains the ride now so the hint should not be ignored.
SELECTION: RUDY CATRAIL
Next best: Ask Cory

Maureen’s Star had looked ready to get her head in front prior to disappointing at Downpatrick last time. However, not every horse handles the unique demands of that track so she can be forgiven that poor run.
Leaving that effort aside, Liam Lennon’s mare holds leading claims here on the back of her Kilbeggan third.
Garrai Phaidin won that aforementioned contest but could struggle to confirm form on revised terms. However, the drop in trip may suit him more than the Lennon mare so he has to be a contender in a race where few catch the eye as potential winners.
SELECTION: MAUREENS STAR
Next best: Garrai Phaidin
