STARZINTHEIREYES looked like an exciting staying prospect, when landing the Zetland Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, writes Page Fuller.

This gutsy performance demonstrated exactly why this step up in trip from seven furlongs was what he needed.

The strong pace set early doors on rain-softened ground played right into his hands. His Top Speed of 39.15mph in the third furlong was the slowest Top Speed of the whole field.

However, he was able to make use of his massive stride to gallop his rivals into the ground towards the end and proved that a step up to further will be no problem next season.

He looked big and raw still, changing his legs a lot on this soft ground, but despite that, he could still cover a massive amount of ground with each stride. His average stride of 7.85m and peak stride of 8.17m was the largest of any horse at Newmarket over the two days. Pretty impressive for a two-year-old!
