They’ve made it much safer which goes a long way to future proofing National Hunt racing in the UK.
They’ve changed it as a challenge & spectacle and changed the type of horse that can win it. And that obviously has a huge impact on the appeal. Not a unique test.

Boxing would be a non contact sport if it was run by the BHA. Gymnastics reduced to trampolining with no backflips allowed. Scrums and rugby tackles abolished. Call me a dinosaur all you like, top level sport is supposed to have its moments of risk and discomfort.
It’s no longer the uniquely entertaining, iconic event it once was and it’s not as good a punting race now either. Everything that made it such a great event is being steadily erased or sanitised and it’s a real shame.

What it is it’s like chopping 10 thousand feet off Everest ..you still climb “the mountain” but it just isn’t the same ever since I could walk the race was different and the biggest test … it now simply isn’t and ..yesterday I watched a good horse race. That’s all.

The field size change to the Nash was a huge success, as have been the modifications to the fences. It simply has to be a safer race, and if that means it’s a 4m2f fixed brush handicap hurdle, so be it. Exciting race with many thrills and few spills. Chapeau @BHAHorseracing

It’s either the new Grand National or NO Grand National. I enjoyed it and I didn’t have to cringe when one came over Bechers arse first. It was still great and I was able to watch with my daughter without having to explain why racing is good and right.

We can’t go back, to survive we have to change and this year produced a very good race. Paul Townend rode the course as good as I have ever witnessed, inside rail all the way saving numerous lengths then switched out late to avoid being trapped.

Still buzzing from how good a race that was. The Grand National is iconic and we must never lose it. The changes looked like they made it safer and it was still a tremendous spectacle. Long live racing.

My issue with the Grand National is not the changes but the state everyone’s got into of annual validation of, or requirement for more, changes based on that year’s outcome. Corach falls at 1st, if he lands badly & ends in disaster all of racing is debating yet more changes today

My two biggest bets were Corach Rambler to win and no fallers at the first fence. You almost couldn’t write it
