THE Association of Irish Racecourses (AIR) is this week shining a spotlight on Roscommon Racecourse, as the staff are busy preparing for their upcoming meeting on Monday, July 10th. This has proven to be one of the track’s most popular race meetings during their season.
While National Hunt racing takes place on the track, with some high-class action, off the track the competition also heats up with the SuperValu Ladies Day taking place. Lifestyle, fashion and beauty influencer, Pam Richardson-Hoare, has been announced as the judge. Six SuperValu stores in Co Roscommon have come together to sponsor Ladies Day.
The six SuperValu stores are Fleming SuperValu in Roscommon, Smith SuperValu in Monksland, Glancy SuperValu in Carrick-On-Shannon, Keane SuperValu in Lanesboro, McGuinness SuperValu in Strokestown, and Cahill SuperValu, Castlerea. The overall winner of the style competition will walk away with a top prize of €1,200, while the nine lucky runners-up will receive €100 each.
Limerick native, and now based in Galway, Pam Richardson-Hoare, said: “I love the social aspect of going racing, dressing up and having a great day out with my friends, and so I’m really thrilled and honoured to be judging the SuperValu Ladies Day at Roscommon Races on Monday next. The fashion at Roscommon is always outstanding, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing all the summer style.”
Michael Finneran, Roscommon Racecourse manager, commented: “Sincere thanks to the six local SuperValu shops for their long-standing and generous sponsorship of our Ladies Day.
It’s one of our most popular race days every summer. We are looking forward to welcoming Pam, and everyone else, to Roscommon next Monday. We wish her all the best selecting the 10 finalists and the overall winner.”
Live music
The first race goes to post at 5pm. There will be live music for racegoers in the main bar after the second last race, and this will continue after the racing has ended. Best turned out prizes are sponsored by Lynch Flooring, based on the Golf Links Road in Roscommon, and other race sponsors include JP McManus, SuperValu, RE/Max Team Earley, The Roscommon Herald and the Irish EBF.
