THE Corinthian Challenge is a very special charity race series run by Irish Injured Jockeys Fund to raise awareness and much needed funds for the national charity.
In honour of the 14 brave Corinthian Challengers’ commitment to the series, The Irish Field together with Irish Injured Jockeys continue to bring you their profiles, news and updates each week.
As part of this ongoing support of Irish Injured Jockeys and their Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series this week we caught up with Peter O’Reilly to give him the opportunity of a profile piece and to assist with his exciting fundraising idea.
Hailing from the thoroughbred county of Kildare, Peter is married to Tish and they have two children, Frankie and Martie. Peter is the Managing Director of Low.ie, which he launched in 2014. Low.ie is a leading Irish online portal for life and mortgage protection insurance.
All his life
Peter has been involved with horses all his life from hunting and racing through to breeding. He rode as an amateur in the 1980s and 1990s.
In recent years, he rode in a couple of charity races including at Cheltenham in 2011. In the same year, a horse Peter bred, Bensalem, won at the festival which made that festival all the more exciting.
This is not Peter’s first-time raising funds for the Irish Injured Jockeys, he previously got involved back in 2015, which took him all across Ireland riding a lap of every Irish racetrack in 24 hours.
It was a huge challenge and involved a lot of support from local trainers and logistical planning, but he succeeded and did it in style none the less.
At the moment, Peter is running an online auction to help him raise funds to reach his target for the series. His auction allows you to bid for unique experiences and thoroughbred related activities that are appealing to the racing community.
‘The Inside Track’ offers a walk around a leading Grade 1 track with top flat jockey, Billy Lee.
‘What bloodstock agents look for and how they succeed’ involves a morning at a leading bloodstock sale with leading agent, Michael Donohoe, BBA Ireland.
‘Breeding Winners’ consists of a trip to Tinnakill House Stud and lunch with leading breeders Dermot & Meta Cantillon.
These are just a few samples of some of the interesting lots available at the online auction which will close at midnight on October 22nd.
