SATURDAY’S jumps card at Fairyhouse has passed a 7.30am inspection.
The track was unraceable in parts on Friday afternoon, but clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan reported on Saturday morning: "The areas we were concerned about are fine. The temperature is currently 5C and could get up to 7C. The going on the chase track remains soft and, would you believe, the hurdle track has tightened up a bit and is yielding to soft, soft in places."
The SBK Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase is the main event there at 1.45.
This afternoon’s meeting at Ffos Las has also been given the go-ahead.
Officials announced a precautionary raceday inspection on Friday due to “vagaries in the forecast”, but were happily able to give the all-clear well before the scheduled 7.30am check.
The fixture is an additional one announced earlier in the week by the British Horseracing Authority, with the aim of giving National Hunt racing the best chance of taking place in the current cold snap.
The DragonBet Towton Novices’ Chase – moved from the Wetherby card lost to the weather – is the highlight at 1.15.
There are three all-weather meetings scheduled for Britain today - at Newcastle, Wolverhampton and Chelemsford, but the last-named is due to be inspected again at 10.30am after sub-zero temperatures overnight.
Point-to-points
Following 8.30am inspections this morning at both Tinahely, ahead of the Shillelagh & District (F) Point to Point fixture, and Ballindenisk ahead of the United Hunt (F) Point to Point fixture, both tracks were found to be fit for racing and the fixtures scheduled for today will both go ahead.
Sunday’s Clonmel (H) Point to Point fixture at Turtulla, has been postponed until Saturday, 18th January as the track is unfit for racing due to a significant covering of snow.
