LATROBE, Eziyra, Capri and Rostropovich look set to represent Ireland at the Longines Hong Kong International Races day at Sha Tin racecourse on Sunday, December 9th.

Irish Derby winner Latrobe will travel from Australia where he went close in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes recently. He will break new ground for Joseph O’Brien by running in the Hong Kong Vase, a 12-furlong contest.

Aidan O’Brien has won the Hong Kong Vase twice in the previous three years with the now-retired Highland Reel, and the champion trainer looks set to be doubly represented by Rostropovich and Capri, the former also travelling from Australia after an excellent run to finish fifth in the Melbourne Cup. Capri runs in the Japan Cup tomorrow.

Dermot Weld could also run Eziyra in the Vase, but she has also been accepted for the Hong Kong Cup, a 10-furlong contest. She would be aiming to be the first Irish-trained winner of that race since Jim Bolger won it with Alexander Goldrun.

Other European entries of note include Waldgeist, who is favourite for the Vase at 4/1. The locally-trained Beauty Generation is even-money favourite to win the Mile for the second year, Hot King Prawn is 2/1 favourite to win the Sprint.
