Supreme Racing Club case with Gardaí

THE sale of shares in racehorses by the Supreme Horse Racing Club prior to the operation’s collapse in 2019 is under investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau for suspected financial irregularities. Horse Racing Ireland confirmed it has referred matters to the guards on activity that took place prior to its freezing of Supreme’s account and subsequent ban on horses entering races two years ago. Former club members say they are owed thousands in winnings.

Kildare quarry court case adjourned again

THE court action seeking permission to have a judicial review of the decision to grant permission for a quarry in Ballyshannon, Co Kildare, was adjourned again this week until January 25th.

Supported by numerous well-known racing and breeding personalities, the Ballyshannon Action Group want the courts to overturn a decision by An Bord Pleanala who overruled Kildare County Council when granting permission to Kilsaran Concrete for the 32.2 hectare development.

An Bord Pleanala’s own inspector also recommended refusal, saying the development would ‘seriously injure the amenities of properties in the vicinity by reason of traffic, noise, air quality, visual impacts and general disturbance’.

The Bord ignored this recommendation and issued a decision on the appeal on June 10th, 2021, allowing for the quarry to proceed.
