£500,000 pot at York for Goffs UK sales race
PRIZE money for the Harry Beeby Premier Yearling Stakes at York will jump to £500,000 in August 2024. The race will also be renamed as Harry’s Half Million by Goffs which continues its commemoration of the late Goffs UK chairman and honorary president Harry Beeby.
Davison nets £75,000 Thunderbear sale online
A 50% share in the Jack Davison-trained Thunderbear was sold for £75,000 on Thursday ahead of an intended outing in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot next Saturday. The share in the three-year-old Kodi Bear gelding was bought on the ThoroughBid platform by City Bloodstock.
Davison, who owns the remaining 50%, said; “I think it’s a fair price and, at that money, it’s makes a lot of sense for the new partner too. They’ve now got a significant share in a good, progressive horse who’s got plenty of big days ahead of him.”

four French races
DARLEY has further extended its support of European racing, adding four new sponsorships in France to the valuable series in Britain and Ireland previously announced. Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock arm will sponsor two listed races at ParisLongchamp, a Group 3 at Chantilly and a conditions race at Saint-Cloud. Sam Bullard, Darley’s director of stallions said: “Following the expansion of Darley’s sponsorships at grassroots level in Britain and Ireland, it was only natural to extend this support of racing to France. We have an exciting young roster of stallions standing at Haras du Logis and these new sponsorships further demonstrate Darley’s support of French racing and breeding.”
First winner for Altruistic
ALTRUISTIC, who stands at a fee of just €500 at Eamonn Hogan’s Rosshill Farm in Galway, sired his first track winner when Pearlofflorida won at Sligo this week. By Galileo, Altruistic was Group 1-placed as a juvenile and is owned by Dr Cyrus Poonawalla.
Durrow ‘country’ auction on June 27th-28th
A LIFE-SIZE bronze statue of a stallion and jockey is one of the 850 lots being offered for sale at the annual Glantelwe Gardens auction in Durrow, Co Laois, on June 27th and 28th. Now in its seventh year, the event is run by Sheppard’s and bids can be made online or in person. Items can be viewed on June 24th-26th from 11am to 5pm. The catalogue includes a broad range of decorative objects typically associated with the pleasure grounds and gardens of the Irish country house, such as entrance gates, fountains, statues, lions, urns, sundials, planters, benches, seats, patio sets, pumps, estate railing, and stone troughs.
