Thurles fixture rescheduled
THE Thurles meeting cancelled last Thursday due to unsuitable ground conditions has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 14th.
Death of CBA employee Ann Hunter
ANN Hunter, formerly of the Curragh Bloodstock Agency, died peacefully earlier this month at Naas Hospital. She started with the CBA aged 18 until the company merged with BBA Ireland in 2005. From a racing family, Ann also worked with Goffs, trainer Brod Fetherstonhaugh, and helped racing historians Guy Williams and Jim Kavanagh with research.
Paddy O’Donnell funeral today
CO Waterford horseman Paddy O’Donnell Snr died on Thursday. He is survived by his sons Paddy, an international show jumper, and Neil, point-to-point journalist. The funeral Mass is at noon today (Saturday) in the Fenor church, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Racehorse owner and agri-consultant dies following a riding accident
DAVID O’Connell, a racehorse owner and agri-enviromental consultant, died on Tuesday following a horse-riding accident. Originally from Kilcullen and living in Enfield, Co Meath, he set up OCAE Consultants and IAS Laboratories. He advised breeders on the management of pastures and carried out soil analysis for some racecourses. He enjoyed success as an owner with Not For Burning, winner of four races when trained by Sneezy Foster. He is survived by his wife Karen and daughter Sarah.
