IHRB seminar on bone injuries
THE Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board will host a free seminar on reducing the risk of fractures and other bone injuries in racehorses at 8pm on Wednesday, October 2nd in The Club at Goffs, Co Kildare. The key speaker will be the internationally renowned Professor Chris Whitton, and is aimed at trainers, owners, veterinarians and anyone involved in the care of racehorses.
ITBA talks politics in Goffs
THE Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association will host a seminar entitled ‘From Paddock to Parliament’ at 6.30pm in Goffs in Thursday, October 31st.
The panel will consist of three key female political figures with strong links to bloodstock and agriculture from three different political parties. Minister Pippa Hackett of the Department of Agriculture represents the Green Party. She will be joined by Senator Fiona O’Loughlin of Fianna Fail and Nina Carberry, MEP for Fine Gael. The host for the talk will be Jane Mangan of Racing TV and RTE Racing, who is also a former jockey and noted breeder in her own right.
Death of Pizarro’s owner
RACEHORSE owner Edward Wallace died last weekend. His best horse was Pizarro, winner of the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in 2002 for trainer Edward O’Grady. Formerly from Bruff in Co Limerick, but living in Foxrock, Co Dublin, Edward is survived by wife Trish and children Alexander and Lauren.
Breeder of Month winner
GUY O’Callaghan of Grangemore Stud has won the Connolly’s Red Mills Breeder of the Month competition for August. He bred Charyn, winner of the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.
Online sale takes in over 386,000gns
FRENCH spriner Mgheera went unsold at this week’s Tattersalls Online Sale when bidding stalled at 300,000gns.
Topping the sale was promising two-year-old colt Defence Missile at 41,000gns. He departs trainer Eve Johnson-Houghton to join Linda Perratt.
The sale realised a turnover of 386,700gns for 70 lots sold, at an average price of 5,524gns.
