OISIN Orr has been confirmed as new stable jockey for Yorkshire trainer Richard Fahey.
Orr rode two winners for Fahey earlier this week, while also this week Paul Hanagan announced that he has parted company with Fahey.
Champion Irish apprentice in 2017 and joint champion in 2019, Orr has been effectively freelance this season following the link-up between trainer Dermot Weld and rider Chris Hayes.
From Rathmullan in Co Donegal, Orr famously partnered Search For A Song to win the Irish St Leger for Dermot Weld in 2020. Last year the pair combined for almost 100 rides but this year Orr has not ridden for Weld at all.
The 25-year-old struck up a partnership with trainer Noel Meade this season, highlighted by Group 3 and Group 2 wins aboard Layfayette. However, with only four wins on the board at home, Orr decided to accept the offer to join Fahey.
Orr was due to ride three horses for Fahey at Epsom on Friday.
The 41-year-old Hanagan was based with Fahey when he was champion jockey in 2010 and 2011. He then took the job as first jockey to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, which saw win the 2014 Oaks on Taghrooda. He also won big races on Mukhadram and Muhaarar.
When that retainer ended after almost five seasons, Hanagan returned to Fahey. They teamed up to win the 2018 Champions Sprint at Ascot with Sands Of Mali and the pair have combined for over 900 winners in total.
However, recent seasons have been relatively lean for Hanagan, who rode over 200 winners in a season when at the peak of his career. He suffered serious back injuries in a fall at Newcastle in February 2020 which sidelined him for six months.
Last year he rode the Fahey-trained Perfect Power to win the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot but Christophe Soumillon was on board when that horse won the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes.
So far this year Hanagan has ridden 14 winners, and Fahey trained 11 of them. Fahey has had 33 winners this season.
