What a phenomenal week of action we witnessed last week at Royal Ascot. Aidan O’Brien may have dominated the meeting, but Karl Burke provided us with a couple of exciting prospects for the future writes Page Fuller.
Shareholder landed Wathnan Racing their second win of the week in the Norfolk Stakes. He travelled powerfully through the race and kept it up well to the line. As the race unfolded, it was clear how crucial his draw had been. The rapid fractions set in front on his side of the track meant he could make the best use of his speed and stamina.
He was the quickest winner of the week, posting the fastest furlong and Top Speed of any of the horses that came home in front. He clocked a 10.78 second furlong in the second furlong and a Top Speed of 42.29 mph in the third furlong. His FSP of 99.31% reflects how well he was able to maintain that speed to the line, just tying up in the closing stages. However, this wasn’t a problem, as his speed had already got him into a position too difficult for his rivals to peg back.
For a two-year-old to be able to produce those sorts of figures on just his second start, he is certainly one to keep an eye on.
