11.40 I.N.H. Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle 2m 4f 15y
Runner-up to a smart sort on his previous visit here last month, Ivybrook can register a first career success. Dermot McLoughlin’s gelding again showed plenty when sixth of 25 in a stronger contest at Fairyhouse on his most recent start. A reproduction of either run should be good enough.
Point-to-point winner Air Of Entitlement looked good when making a successful rules debut in a Cork bumper in April. Although well-beaten in a Grade 3 contest after, she has to be a serious contender on her hurdling debut.
SELECTION: IVYBROOK
Next best: Air Of Entitlement
12.13 Connolly’s RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle 2m 1f 53y
Twice runner-up since returning from a long absence, Downmexicoway should open his account. A former winning point-to-pointer, the Henry de Bromhead-trained five-year-old should be approaching peak fitness after those two previous outings.
The locally-trained Busy Being Busy should have every chance for Neil McKnight. A close up third on his racecourse debut at Thurles, the four-year-old should be all the better for that experience.
SELECTION: DOWNMEXICOWAY
Next best: Busy Being Busy
12.48 Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle 2m 1f 53y
Recent Naas third Backfromtheraces can give Philip Rothwell and Tiernan Power Roche another success. Despite being raised 2lb for that performance, her jockey can claim twice that here, meaning the five-year-old is effectively 2lb better off.
A faller when staying on nicely here on his last start over hurdles, Pralognan has been running consistently on the flat in recent months. It would be no surprise to see the Tony Martin-trained gelding make a bold bid.
SELECTION: BACKFROMTHERACES
Next best: Pralognan
1.23 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase 2m 4f 130y
El Champo can complete a quick double for Philip Rothwell and Tiernan Power Roche. One of the best of these over hurdles, the six-year-old sets the standard on what he has achieved over fences to date. Four times runner-up in chases, the gelding can get his head in front for the first time in this discipline.
Lightkeeper has a bit of work to do in order to reverse recent Cork form with the selection. However, the Gordon Elliott-trained six-year-old was having his first start over fences, so should be open to more improvement.
SELECTION: EL CHAMPO
Next best: Lightkeeper
1.58 Metcollect Handicap Chase 2m 4f 130y
Winner of this race 12 months ago, Eagle Terrace can follow up. Trainer Noel Kelly does very well with his runners at this track and is sure to have plotted a return trip for the smart dual-purpose handicapper. Off a 4lb higher mark, he should prove difficult to beat.
Recent Thurles winner Cullenwaine should again have every chance. The 7lb penalty he picks up for that success has been fully offset with the booking of Paddy Hanlon.
SELECTION: EAGLE TERRACE
Next best: Cullenwaine
2.33 Metcollect Oil Recycling Hunters Chase 3m
Leading hunter chaser Its On The Line can repeat last year’s success in this race. The Emmet Mullins-trained gelding later went on to win at both Aintree and Punchestown, only narrowly losing out in the Foxhunters’ at Cheltenham. He remains very much the horse to beat in this division.
Former Cheltenham Festival-winning mare Angels Dawn is an intriguing addition to the hunter chase ranks this season. A very smart handicapper at her best, the Sam Curling-trained nine-year-old may just prefer easier ground.
SELECTION: ITS ON THE LINE
Next best: Angels Dawn
3.08 Metcollect Metal Recycling (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race 2m 1f 53y
Sent off at odds-on when winning on his sole point-to-point start, Theflyingking can make an immediate impact on his rules debut. Trainer Gordon Elliott has an abundance of talent in the bumper department, so anything he runs has to be given maximum respect.
Navan runner-up Strong Link looks best of those that have raced previously. Although unable to win from three attempts between the flags, the Ross O’Sullivan-trained gelding looked a promising sort on his racecourse introduction.
SELECTION: THEFLYINGKING
Next best: Strong Link
