2.50 Coolmore America ‘Justify’ Matron Stakes (Group 1)

Magical Sunset: Beaten seven and a half lengths by Portuna Fortuna when sent off 50/1 in the Falmouth Stakes, and it’s hard to see her faring any better here.

Mammas Girl: Outsider has never lived up to the expectations set by her first two wins.

Rogue Millennium: Second last year and since sold for 1.65m guineas, she has been a bit disappointing this season, though her last two starts were some return to form. That said, her Falmouth Stakes third leaves her four lengths to find with Porta Fortuna.

Fallen Angel: Just one blip on her record when a beaten favourite in the 1000 Guineas in which Porta Fortuna was second, though the roles were reversed in the Moyglare Stud Stakes last season. Absence since late May is a slight concern.

Jancis: She could be anything, but seems very short for a twice-raced filly up against Group 1 winners. Her pedigree suggests this step up in trip should suit.

Porta Fortuna: It’s hard to find fault with this triple Group 1 winner, though any rain would be a negative.

Soprano: Consistently progressive filly still has plenty to find in this company.

Vespertilio: Her juvenile form and third in the French Guineas put her in the mix, but she’s been disappointing on her last two starts.

Wendla: Career-best came in a Group 3 over course and distance, but she has since disappointed, including when well-beaten by Jancis.

Ylang Ylang: A Group 1 winner at two, she very disappointing last time out, even if slowly away. Ryan Moore said the ground was too quick then, which is a worry if no rain falls.

Conclusion

It looks a close call between Fallen Angel and Porta Fortuna, with a slight preference for Donnacha O’Brien’s filly. It remaims an open race for third, with Vespertilio and Ylang Ylang leading contenders should they bounce back to their best.
