1.25 Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 3) 1m7f

Bottler’secret is an intriguing debutant for Gavin Cromwell. An 87-rated recruit from the flat, he got a Triumph Hurdle entry, so is clearly doing the right things at home, however he will have to run to 130 plus here to deal with the five-time winner Wodhooh. Gordon Elliott has certainly placed this filly very well this season but her quality and attitude shouldn’t be questioned, and she is versatile ground wise. She can make it six out of six.

You can expect a bit better from Trustyourinstinct following his opening fourth to Miss Manzor at Fairyhouse last month. He has a rating of 102 on the flat while Pacini returns to the scene of his maiden hurdle win in September.

SELECTION: WODHOOH

Shoot The Blues could be tough to beat if able to improve off the back of his promising debut second at Fairyhouse last month. Barry Connell’s seven-year-old, running for the first time since winning a Limerick bumper in October 2022, showed up well in that two-mile contest only to find the useful Western Diego too good on the day. He should strip fitter and benefit from the match practice now.

Rainbow Trail is surely better than he showed on his hurdles debut when well beaten by Blizzard Of Oz over an extended two miles and three furlongs at Punchestown. He had previously won a bumper at Clonmel. Pen To Paper, an €88,000 store purchase is worth a market check on hid debut here for Henry de Bromhead and J.P. McManus.

2.25 Nas Na Riogh Novice Handicap Chase (Listed) 2m4f

This is really competitive and likely to be a lively betting heat. Evies Vladimir and Kings Halo really stick out. They met earlier this season over this trip at Clonmel, the former coming out on top by a neck, but they have both progressed significantly since and come into this off impressive wins. Kings Halo is 4lb better off on that Down Royal meeting, but more significantly he was really good over this course and distance last time out, dominating from the front and 18 lengths clear at the line. Heavy ground suits him fine and he should give another bold show.

At the bottom of the weights, Battle It Out catches the eye coming up to this trip. He struggled in beginners’ chase company but found his level on handicap chase debut when fourth to Midnight It Is at Fairyhouse. His maiden hurdle win came over today’s trip so that bring about some improvement.

SELECTION: KINGS HALO

Next best: Evies Vladimir

2.55 Newlands Chase (Grade 3) 2m

The fragile Ferny Hollow should be able to make a winning return. Willie Mullins’ chaser hasn’t been seen since he conceded 13lb to Riviere D’etel when winning the Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase at Christmas but long gaps off the track haven’t hindered him before. The 2020 Champion Bumper winner is a top class operator on his day and even if he is below par here, he still should be able to deal with Ash Tree Meadow, who has to concede 9lb to him.

Gordon Elliott’s Galway Plate winner has a Grand National entry and other spring targets so may well be here as a sharpener after a mid-season break. Course specialist Espanito Bello is respected but has to come back from two non completions, while this trip may be on the short side for him.

SELECTION: FERNY HOLLOW

Next best: Ash Tree Meadow

A chance is taken on Intent Approach, though the market may tell you all you need to know about this J.P. McManus-owned, Charles Byrnes-trained gelding. He has shown flashes of ability in maiden hurdles and was notably sent off 5/2 for his handicap hurdle debut at Thurles. He fell on that occasion and although only sixth when taking on two and a half miles at Punchestown on his latest run, he caught the eye with the way he finished out his race there, having jumped poorly in the early stages. A return to this trip may help him in that department.

Whacker Clan has an obvious chance at the weights, as he is rated 11lb higher over fences after a couple of wins early in the season. The soft ground is a worry for him. Zoffanien also makes appeal after a good effort to finish third to Little Mixup at Thurles. Off a mark of 123, he is back to a competitive mark now.

SELECTION: INTENT APPROACH

Next best: Zoffanien

3.55 Pertemps Network Group Handicap Hurdle 2m6f

The majority of these are looking to qualify for the Pertemps Final here (need to finish in the first four) but connections won’t want to be showing their full hand at the same time. That makes it a tricky contest to decipher but it is more straightforward for Eddie Cawley’s Waittillitellyou, who hasn’t been given a Pertemps entry and can fully go for gold tomorrow. He is 2lb out of the weights but both of his wins over hurdles have come on heavy ground, once over three miles as well, and he made a perfectly satisfactory comeback when a relatively close fourth to Mint Boy at Fairyhouse last month. With just 10 starts to his name, he is lightly raced for a 10-year-old so may have more to offer off a mark of 115.

Cato’s Revenge has a Pertemps entry but may well need a win here in any case to get up high enough to get a run. He’s interesting back over this sort of trip. He beat subsequent winner Alpesh Almin easily at Limerick over Christmas and his third to Da Capo Glory last time reads well.

SELECTION: WAITTILLITELLYOU

Next best: Cato’s Revenge

A tentative vote goes to Wingmen who looked a horse of real promise at this course in December. Gordon Elliott’s gelding clocked a good time when eight lengths too good for Typhoon Flyer and Iris Emery, the latter boosting the form by winning on his next start.

William Munny should be thereabouts after he made a winning debut when showing a good attitude to fend off C’est Ta Chase at Navan, showing he can handle heavy ground in the process.
