She’s been frustrating to follow but Oxford Rock has enough experience and ability to win a maiden of this standard. She bumped into one at Down Royal last time when second and something like that effort will have her bang in the picture again now. Wayne Hassett’s 5lb claim is no harm to her chances either.

Zambales looked a potential non-stayer under a positive ride over seven furlongs last time at Gowran, though he did show early speed to get out and bag the rail. Dropping to five furlongs here is another unknown but it looks worth a shot with the blinkers refitted. Island Girl showed some promise last time when fourth over this course and distance and could be open to improvement.

SELECTION: OXFORD ROCK

Despite being a 10-year-old who hasn’t won in over a year, there’s a case to be made for Only Spoofing back at his favourite Irish track off a declining mark. A three-time winner over this course and distance, he ran well after being hampered soon after leaving the gates here last time, finishing a safely-held fourth to the improving Ostraka. Down another 2lb now, he ought to be on the premises if getting a better crack at it in this eight-runner affair.

Irish Rumour certainly wasn’t winning out of turn here last time and is now forced to step up in grade. She’s been in fine form since returning from a break, though, and another bold bid is expected. Collective Power is down in grade and must be considered a big threat if back on song.

SELECTION: ONLY SPOOFING

Racing off 1lb higher than a near miss here last time when beaten half a length in senior company, this return to three-year-old-only level should be right up the street of Bucaneer’s Spirit, who has been in excellent form of late. A clear-cut winner two starts ago at Cork, the Jack Davison-trained gelding can be expected to be coming home strongly up this stiff finish.

Whispersinthewind is a potentially lively handicap debutante for Donnacha O’Brien on the basis of her maiden runs towards the end of last year at Dundalk. Koniag comes here after a rock-solid second at Cork last time and makes appeal. Kiki Roberts, third at Punchestown on Tuesday, has a handy low weight when factoring in the rider’s 5lb claim.

SELECTION: BUCANEER’S SPIRIT

Stepping back up to 10 furlongs could be just what the doctor ordered for North Africa, who has put two creditable efforts back to back the last twice and could have a decent opportunity to open her account now.

Aidan O’Brien’s Galileo filly finished second to the useful-looking Golden Ocean over a mile here a fortnight ago and looks to have no issue with decent ground such as this.

Liltia, who has four and a quarter lengths to find with the selection on the basis of their clash here last time, is bound to get closer to her over this longer trip. Our Girl Katie ran well when fourth in the same maiden on debut and rates a likely improver.

Valinor adds depth to the race and should be up to winning one of these before long, with the benefit of two runs under her girth now.

The form of Sidiza’s debut third to Hanalia reads even better since last weekend’s Blandford Stakes, while Silver Sixpence is a well-bred Juddmonte newcomer for Ger Lyons.

SELECTION: NORTH AFRICA

Keilah got hit with an 8lb rise for a silky win at Punchestown on Tuesday and has been declared to run under a 7lb penalty here, so technically has 1lb in hand. It’s probably fair to say that this is a weaker race and she must have an excellent chance, though on paper it looks as though she probably won’t get the strong pace to run at that she seemed to appreciate earlier this week.

Mayo For Sam, making her first start for Mick Flannery, won two starts ago at Gowran before finishing fifth in a Sligo claimer. Now able to step back into 47-65 company after being dropped 2lb, she should be competitive again. Plunkett Street’s best form gives him a chance, while Lilac Lady has threatened to win one of these before but may prefer a little further.

The return to a more conventional track should be a positive for Kalkanli’s chances after finishing second to a ready winner at Tramore last time. The Johnny Murtagh-trained son of Zarak has a rating of 78 and is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time. If able to build on some of his maiden runs at the Curragh earlier in the season, he’ll be in the mix now upped in trip.

Soul Of Spain has an experience edge over plenty of these and is respected. Get disappointed last time after a promising comeback at Cork. She looked to have the ability to win one of these at the Mallow track but now has a bit of a question to answer. Market Timing went close at Bellewstown last time and remains unexposed, while Realt Na Ri can probably be excused for disappointing in that same maiden after showing signs of being in season post-race. Some of her previous form makes her a live player in this company. Tiding looks worth trying at this type of trip after finishing third over 10 furlongs here last time. Joyeux Machin is a useful National Hunt performer back from 115 days off.

SELECTION: KALKANLI

It’s interesting to see Michael O’Sullivan booked to take a rare flat ride on El Regalo, still able to utilise his 3lb claim in this discipline. The Australia gelding has a chance of being better with time and experience, and didn’t run badly on handicap debut last time at Roscommon. He isn’t overly exposed and stepping up in trip has the potential to eke out more in him.

Robbies Rock bombed out last time at Killarney and is hard to trust now returning in a tongue-tie, but he had hinted at winning potential prior to that. Question Of Class disappointed when last seen at Galway, though a return to when knocking on the door at Limerick and this venue earlier this summer would make her competitive. Lightning Legs has a lovely low weight when factoring in Keithen Kennedy’s 7lb claim and ran respectably when fourth over this course and distance last time.
