CAN Current Option land the quadruple in the Ahonoora Handicap tomorrow? Ado McGuinness certainly thinks so.
The seven-year-old leads his team of four as it stands for the feature seven-furlong contest, with the potential for the team to grow to six if reserves Cordouan and No More Porter get a run as reserves.
Five of the six took their chance in the Colm Quinn BMW Mile on Tuesday and while No More Porter came within a head of securing another victory in that race for the North Dublin outfit, McGuinness was left a little bit frustrated with the way the race was run.
“They didn’t go as hard as they usually would and finished in a bunch, there was less than five lengths covering the first 15 home, which is very unusual for a Galway Mile” he said. “It suited some of mine but it didn’t suit others. We were very happy with Current Option. The race did what we thought it would do for him, just took the sting out of him and he’s been really well back at home all week.
“The pace definitely didn’t suit Saltonstall but he finished very strongly and had to make his run on the worst ground in the straight. I’m very happy with him.”
Casanova went off favourite for this race last season before finishing seventh while Laugh A Minute is the only one of McGuinness’s six who is having his first run at Galway this week.
“Laugh A Minute ran a cracker here last year and the year before. He will have no issue with soft ground. If they go good and hard, he has finished strongly over the last couple of years.”
